For what it's worth, violent teen flash mobs haven't been so bad this year despite some consistent criminal activity, yet the damage done still takes a toll as retail continues to move to the Internets.
Here's the latest update worth a read:
FOX4: KC’s Country Club Plaza keeps changing as more stores, restaurants come and go
Money line:
"At one point, the high-end stores came in, but now the Plaza is going through another transition. A lot of national chains moved in. Some stores struggle to stay afloat. Just last week, St. John Knits announced it will shut its doors. Williams-Sonoma, Zoom Toy Store, Plaza III Steakhouse, Eddie Bauer, Burberry, Swirk Jewelry and Houston's Restaurant all left the Plaza recently. St. Johns will close Saturday and move to Johnson County . . . "
You decide . . .
Don't worry. The Streetcar is going to bring back the plaza. Just watch!
ReplyDeleteGod, I hope you're kidding. The streetcar is just going to move around a lot of the hobos and bring even more crime. Not even the east side wants the train on the plaza and it wouldn't have passed without a rigged vote. What a shame.
Delete^^^^ Only the losers call a vote rigged. The people want the streetcar and given that retail isn't going to support this district anymore, you better hope that tourism will be the saving grace. People just aren't going there to shop anymore.
DeleteYour economics are in crayolas. And the vote was rigged because most voters didn't want it.
DeleteWhen given the choice in the TDD statute to have a vote in a regularly scheduled election or an onerous mail in election which is difficult for poor voters, the proponents chose the difficult option. Why? Because only motivated and better informed voters would participate. Call it what you like, rigged or voter suppression, it's corruption plain and simple.
DeleteI hear Parkville is nice.
ReplyDeleteThe movie theater raised the age requirement again. That should help considering all the damage it cause.
ReplyDeleteAlso, there's a new gelato shop that's pretty decent.
You had to download a ballot, have it notarized, and mail in it to vote for a streetcar. The dems don’t even want to make you have a valid state or federal ID to vote for congress or the president. But yeah, it wasn’t rigged.
ReplyDelete
ReplyDeleteThere was a gelato shop before and it didn't make it, this is just the same thing with the same prices that the new clientele won't pay for. The Plaza has a mall clientele with cheap stores like forever 21 and Nike. What made the Plaza great in it's day was local business and very few chains stores, along with restrictions on store fronts, like no plate glass windows and cheap signage. That's gone and will never be that way again. The little black flash mobs have been the death of the Plaza too, stores like Eddie Bauer had people who ran in and took arm loads of merchandise, who can afford to stay in business with that going on? You can only pass so much on to the consumer.
The Plaza is DYING!
The vote was rigged and the Plaza has been nigged
ReplyDeleteYes the Plaza is dying. People who can spend money there do not want to go anymore because of the ghetto criminals running wild down there. The police do not appear interested in doing anything about it, so yes, the Plaza is dying.
ReplyDeleteNothing worth going to the shit hole Plaza anymore . What's left there ? Maybe one or two decent restaurant , a jewelry store , a shit homosexually abounds cigar dump that looks like a rummage sale crap from a nursing home , lots of inner city youth scholar's hood rats running wild , crime in the parking garage ! Why would anyone risk your life for that worthless KILLA CITY crap ?
ReplyDeleteThe plaza died a while ago, it moved to southern johnson county kansas
ReplyDeletewhy go down to the plaza? shake shack? most of the stuff down there is over priced, getting in and out is a hassle, and it seems like a lot of crime stories (there is currently one two articles down from this one)
no thanks
Tried to go to the Plaza, but Main Street dead-ended coming from the North. So I drove around and came at it from the South, but darned if Main didn't dead-end from that direction too!
ReplyDeleteOh, well - there's always The Landing, it's now a "shade" better than the Plaza anyway.
Blacks killed the Plaza, P.E.R.I.O.D.
ReplyDeleteJust like they ruin everything they touch.
The Plaza isn’t dying. Harold Pener is opening a store just a short dine and dash from Tomfooleries.
ReplyDeleteThe Plaza is iconic to Kansas City. It keeps losing the characteristics that made it that way. Wish a local with money and / or influence would take it over and return it to its glory. Out of town owners don't give a damn.
ReplyDeleteRisk of getting robbed mugged raped carjacked assaulted homo molested stabbed shot killed not worth going to the shit hole KILLA CITY CRIMINAL BOYZ Plaza ! Stay safe by going to the Golden Ghetto of South Central Overland Park and Leewood , still very much safer for your family and most everyone carries a gun legally ! Plus the cops don't put up with all the LIBERAL inner city youth scholar's hood rats looking for trouble .
ReplyDeletemake it a pedestrian zone!
ReplyDeleteThe only Resturent That is always busy is JACK STACK. THE SMOKED PRIME RIB WITH A LOADED BAKED POTATO. BEST ON THE MENU.
ReplyDeletePlaza shit hole has turned into an outlet mall , cheap crap , over run with inner city boons that buy nothing steal everything , mugg and rob WHITE PEOPLE humans and our fine KC COPS are ordered to stand down . Used to be a good time , sadly never again .. will be the next LIBERAL Bannister mall , Indian springs , hell even the out of town people know to avoid the Plaza dump and go directly to the Golden Ghetto of Leewood and Overland Park instead of risking your family against the inner city youth scholar's hood hood rats that want to KILLA CITY anyone who's WHITE !
ReplyDeleteIt's kind of a good thing that all you geezerz are scared of your own shadow. please stay off the Plaza hide in your basement turn on Fox News and plant your head firmly up your ass. You aren't really needed in Kansas City or in any other part of decent Society donate your money to the president and Russia and please have a fun day. Also your daughter is dating habits would probably kill you so don't ask.
Delete11:59, don't drink and post
DeleteSo much negativity about the city...
ReplyDelete"You're living in poverty. Your schools are no good. You have no jobs, 58% of your youth is unemployed - What the hell do you have to lose?”
“Throughout my campaign I pledged to focus on improving conditions for African American citizens"
"I will produce. I will produce the inner cities and I will produce for the African-Americans."
What happened to MAGA? You walk down the street you get shot. This American carnage ends right now. I alone can fix it.
He lied?
Everyone has to do everything for the blacks and they still fail, how about some personal responsibility
Delete^^^^ That's a pretty broad brush you're painting with Barney. There are a lot of black people who don't ask for help from anyone. And some of them who would put your bank account to shame. Not everybody lives in the hood, you're showing your age and your bigotry.
DeleteThere's a couple restaurants I still dine at but to go there to shop...get real.
ReplyDeleteBlame it on the teens all you want but the Plaza is from a bygone era.
ReplyDelete12:04 you’re an idiot
ReplyDelete9:46 “shade better” that’s funny right there!
ReplyDeletesLIE killed the plaza because it’s white owned business’s so he sent his worthless murderous black scum down there to destroy it. He would’ve put the national guard and hired 5000 more police to protect it if it was all black owned business’s.
1:45, Why are you calling Trump an idiot?
ReplyDeleteThe plaza is dying its unsafe with too much crime.
ReplyDeleteThe Plaza. Lousy air conditioning in the summer, cold as hell in the winter, terrible parking, boring shops, interesting wildlife. Come visit.
ReplyDeleteThe Plaza isn’t dying, it’s dead, and it’s very sad. It used to be truly a world-class shopping area. But when the “diversity” started taking the place over and nothing was done about it, it died in a hurry. Thanks, sLIE, for this part of your “legacy.”
ReplyDelete@8:47 is a city minion. Having tourists going to a failed area will not save the area. Since tourists have nothing to do on the Plaza except fight off the hood rats there are better off staying home.
ReplyDeleteMaybe Plaza rent is overpriced? It's hard for smaller local businesses to make it when your rent is off the charts. I think what you're seeing, in addition to some other factors, is a rent market bubble that's bursted. It makes no sense to open up in the plaza at those rates. National chains can swing it obviously because they're national.
ReplyDeletedon't like parking in high-rise parking.
ReplyDelete@5:05 I'd be careful with the words "a lot" in that situation. Are there blacks that bust their asses working, are married, have a couple of kids who are being raised right, and who have some money stocked away. Yes, certainly. I've met one. Yes, just one black family that meets those criteria. I've lived a fairly full life and have interacted with a number of black, white, asian, and indian people. I would hazard a guess that the amount of black families meeting those criteria in the black community are ~0.1%.
ReplyDeleteDon't forget the panhandlers. I saw a woman who is a fixture in front of the kitchen store (which will probably be the next store to leave) pee herself. Just stood there with a dead-eyes while a stream of urine started pooling around her foot.
ReplyDeleteA friend was there to eat on Saturday and said she was aggressively approached several times and that she won't go there again without her guy. Said she didn't feel safe.
Street performers with a can out is one thing. Make them have permits. The homeless or mentally ill panhandlers should have been dealt with a long time ago.
The destination stores are all going to Kansas. The Plaza is populated with generic mall stores that are not worth wading through the gauntlet of panhandlers.
Plaza offers nothing. I've lived within walking distance to the plaza my whole life and have only been there like twice in the last 2-3 years. Used to go all the time to shop. Restaurants are pretty subpar and get outclassed by anything downtown. Shops are just shitty chains, and there's no way in shit I'll see a movie at the theater again. Place used to be good but now it's been over run by people who are disrespectful
