TKC MUST SEE!!! BEYOND THE LOOP: TRANSIT ACTIVISTS ARGUE THAT REPLACING HIGHWAY WITH SEWAGE STREAM WILL SAVE KANSAS CITY!!!

Urban planners arguing among themselves and rejecting any input that doesn't suit their agenda believe that a stream instead of motorist access is an improvement for Kansas City.

The thesis and just a bit of hype from the Beyond The Loop cabal:

KCCrank noted: "I dare anyone to make a case for keeping #NorthLoop as it is instead of replacing it with this."

As always, there's no debating that the drawings are pretty and envision a Downtown without hobos sleeping under the bridges - Which is now the status quo.

And given the state of local storm sewer repair . . . It's pretty obvious this stream envisioned would turn nasty faster than Downtown denizens can say: Brush Creek.

(Credit to a few Twitter cynics who already noted the Flush Creek connection.)

It's not that the idea isn't intriguing . . . But urban planners constantly float these schemes and anyone who questions the practicality or other civic priorities is usually derided by the echo chamber of consultants and developers who actively thwart, hide from or ignore any kind of debate.

You decide . . .

  1. It could work!

    Just don't swim in it.

  2. I can see it being a haven for the bums and inner city people flooding it on Friday and Saturdays stirring up trouble.

Stupid and costly failure of an idea if you ask me.

  3. North Brush Creek and South Brush Creek... go for it.

  4. And how are they going to pay for this Science Fiction? These idiots waste our time with this stuff while the real neighborhoods decay from lack of funding for basic services, because we chased the bright shiny objects. Thanks, Sly!!

  5. Full stream ahead! :-) Let’s do this!

  6. If KCMO could just roll up all the ridiculous and completely impractical plans they've paid consultants to concoct over the years and sell the paper by the pound, they might have enough millions to pay for even more ridiculous plans, like this one.
Of course, they can always waste PIAC money on this kind of crap, just like they did for the streetcar study.
@9:36am is right on the money.
Why can't any of these empty-headed electeds ever say NO?

  7. Yeah I vote for never improving the city and always leaving it the way it is forever.

    1. It's funny what some people call improvements.

  8. Where do the fools think the water for this idiotic dream is going to come from? But the first mistake was winding I-70 all around the downtown area to begin with. But doing something smart in Kansas City has never been one of it's strong suits.

  9. +100000000, they’ve only gotten dumber is the worst part.

“Just when you think you’ve hit rock bottom you’d think there’s no place but up, here in killa shitty we found a new way, instead of going up we go sideways!”

  10. What do you expect when MoDOT has Univetsity of Missouri grads working for them like Joseph Stoplights Turner?

  11. @ 10:06, aka Chris Hernandez, go back to sleep, Sly's shoes don't need a shine right now.

  12. Oh no! Don't anybody ever propose anything different in this city! Not on my watch! Not now or ever!! Oh no! Just because I have no vision, means that everybody should have no vision. Oh no!! This is too much! No change now or ever! I hate change! This looks like too much for me to process...I can't even right now! Oh no!

  13. 10:42 OOOOOOOOH I HATE LIVING HERE SO MUCH BUT AM APPARENTLY UNABLE TO FATHOM LIVING ANYWHERE ELSE ALL I CAN DO IS COMPLAIN AND WHINE AND NOT BOTHER MAKING MY LIFE BETTER!!! OOOOOOOOH!!!!

  14. Hey shit-for-brains^^^^ I think 10:42 is making fun of people who post like you. Get it? No, you don't because you're old as fuck, and woefully out-of-touch!

  15. This city better never change anything! Then I can complain about how nothing ever changes!

  16. Sounds expensive. I understand that these "Design streetscapes for people. Make KC more walkable!" folks have this grand ideas for how to build a city, but that plan has to include the bottom 50% of income earners who are already struggling to afford to live here. We can't simply continue to dedicate all of our public resources to invest in areas that are already too expensive for many people to live. Can we focus on crime and quality of life in the urban core? A bottom up approach? It's unbelievable how selfish and disrespectful it is to talk about using tax dollars on more luxuries when we've got folks living in the woods and vacant houses burning down from squatters every week, and folks with mental illness roaming the streets.

  17. ^^Yea, we can't ever talk about anything else until all people everywhere are free, and no one lives in despair, and all people are brothers untied in harmony for ever and ever! Grow up dummy. We can do both!

It's not a matter of improving it's a matter of doing it right, just take a look at what they did to Armour with the so called bike lanes! It was a small project that is a disaster, you can't pull out from any of the side streets because of a "protected bike lane," they put the bike lane first and the parked cars second, it's a joke. Take a drive down Locust at about 5p.m. and try to pull out onto Armour. Done backwards!

  20. ^^No. Who cares about bike lanes? Only you, because you bring it up all the fucking time. Here's a clue for you: If nobody engages you about the bike lanes, NOBODY CARES!!!!!!!

  21. Fixing the KCMO school district should be priority 1. It would greatly increase the tax base because myself and thousands of others left the state to JOCO just so we can have semi competent schools. I'd rather my kids work in a sawmill rather than go to a KCMO school...whether that's right or not that is the common perception among everyone in the 'burbs. I no longer live or work in KCMO so they get no tax money from me or most of my neighbors and the main reason is the schools. Make those decent for families and stuff will get better all around

    ReplyDelete
  22. Bicycle lanes a total waste of money.

  23. I want skate boarding lanes!

  24. I don't feel safe walking on Armour Blvd. I want my safe spaces.

  25. Slie will do anything and support anything that pushes the blight further from downtown. Slie does not want blight interfering with his pie in the sky paradise KCMO.
He has no time to dedicate to fixing the current infrastructure.

  26. Thanks Sly you have the roaches running in all directions hiding in decent parts of town in section 8 housing.
