TKC EXCLUSIVE!!! BAD REVIEWS ABOUND FOR NEW KANSAS CITY LINWOOD SHOPPING CENTER SUN FRESH GROCERY STORE AMID SHOPLIFTING SECURITY POLICY CRISIS!!!
This afternoon Kansas City is only offered promotional coverage of a new taxpayer subsidized grocery store in urban core Kansas City whilst social media touts rampant criticism of the venture already emerging.
The grand opening for the new Sun Fresh Market at the corner of Linwood Blvd. and Prospect Ave was touted by City Hall and most of the news coverage simply follows propaganda talking points hoping to support 12th & Oak investment of millions worth of public funds.
Today's opening served mostly as a political rally with no less than a half-dozen elected officials working the crowd for votes.
However . . .
BEHIND THE SCENES SOCIAL MEDIA COMPLAINTS IDENTIFY PROFILING AND FAMILY UNFRIENDLY CRITICISM GAINING TRACTION AMONG NEARBY RESIDENTS!!!
Right now one of the top complaints argues against a controversial sign threatening to limit access for customers with youngsters in tow.

Here are just a few complaints that are have earned hundreds of likes & shares . . .
"The sign on the door says "No Backpacks, No Bags, No strollers" So if I'm a mother and came to the store with my child, I have to carry them. If I had to walk to the store with my baby, I can't bring the diaper bag."
"Was not built for us, built for the newcomers and residents of new apts. scheduled to be developed . . ."
"Family unfriendly . . . In addition to the profiling of 95% of the residents who will frequent the store."
This last point from a very knowledgeable insider sparks an interesting juxtaposition.
EARLY CUSTOMERS REPORT RAMPANT SHOPLIFTING WHICH NECESSITATED THE POLICY TO PREVENT STEALING!!!
In fact, a cadre of women shoving merch into their bags hand over fist caused panic among workers and so the new policy was enacted. Bad to worse: Some witnesses report the women were selling the stolen items back to potential customers in the parking lot.
And so . . .
ALREADY THERE'S COMMUNITY ANGER TARGETING THE STORE AMID A SHOPLIFTING CRISIS!!!
And this conflict is a big part of the reason that taxpayer subsidy of an old-school grocery store was hotly contested as private biz retreated from the area over concerns over security and shrinkage.
Brief aside . . . The grocery store subsidy touted by City Hall overlooked innovative alternatives for healthy food delivered to the community like the Rollin' Grocer which has earned nationwide acclaim. But I digress . . .
Now, KCMO has committed taxpayers to solving the "food desert" problem by way of subsidy for a business model that previously failed and is once again hotly debated within the urban core.

The store will change management in 2 years and probably fold in 5. This was a bad idea and another "legacy" of Mayor Sly James.

Five years is generous. Grocery stores operate on a thin profit margin of less than 1%. Tight security isn't even part of their business model. If the don't close, expect that city's share of subsidy to increase by double over the next few years, sadly that is par for the course when it comes to most developments.

We don't want babies with shitty diapers stinking up the store. Require women to wear slacks with blouses tucked in to avoid sticking beef roasts between their legs. Do not accept food stamps or debit cards. Only allow 1 kid under 18 in the store at one time.

DeleteThe grocery store me also has a sign at the entrance that says "No Backpacks" and I don't live anywhere near the inner city. Backpacks are a red flag for shoplifting.

Lipari family's multi-generations of grocers have been successful because they do what's required to serve their clients well. Every store they've owned that my family has shopped for several decades has been AWG/KCK members, which helps with quality standards, fair pricing, and good selections. All levels of personnel at Lipari stores have had loyal staff who've stayed employed with them far longer than many other retailers. Same goes for the dedicated and respectable Cosentino family stores, where owners put in the long hours and physically taxing functions well past the age of a deserved early retirement they could opt for, if they wanted to.

ReplyDeleteWhy is this not family friendly? A family is a husband and a wife and their children. A mother of welfare bastards without a husband is a garbage slut and a parasite, unless she is a poor widow, God bless her. Even if you need to take the bus, surely the husband can stay with the children outside while the wife shops, or vice versa. Also there should only be one register for food stamps, EBT cards, etc. That way security can keep an eye on the parasites. And for God's sake don't do like they do on Mill St.--no unaccompanied children should be allowed in the parking lot, period. Time to end food stamps for baby mama. Maybe even give them their own store, back of the sewage processing plant.

All of the "Reverends," or is it "con-artists," over there should have been preaching that to their clergy. But then again, how many of those "reverends" have a rap sheet of their own?
I paid over personally paid more than the median salary for Kansas City in income taxes last year (which doesnt include the real property taxes, personal property taxes, and sales taxes) and do you think this city council cares to complete projects that I support, no they cater to the welfare recipients.
