A little more than a year ago Kansas City elected officials made big promises for a slate of public improvements if voters approved MASSIVE borrowing (i.e. higher taxes) via GO bonds. The election was exceptionally suspect given questionable turnout numbers despite most locals reporting nearly abandoned polling places but the slate of questions passed nevertheless.
More than one year later . . .
- The dog shelter they promised is STILL UNDERFUNDED despite MORE City Hall cash than initially promised.
- Sidewalk repaving has been MINIMAL with some really fun mistakes.
- Water rates keep spiking and sketchy storm sewer repair hasn't improved flooding nearly every time it rains.
Even better but on a somewhat unrelated note, local power company monopolies haven't done much to strengthen the local grid and constant outages every time it rains are now commonplace.
And so . . .
TKC FIRST NEWS . . . RAIN TODAY IS CAUSING MASSIVE KANSAS CITY POWER OUTAGES AND TYPICAL FLOODING!!!
On the bright side, watching Katie Horner this morning has been fun and reminds us of her earlier career.
Confirmation from KCTV5: Thousands without power in Kansas City following severe weather
Developing . . .
Katie has fire in her eyes again.
ReplyDeleteGood for her!
Dem GO bonds be GOne. To the toot toot.
ReplyDeleteDon't know what you're talking about. KC IS A SEWER.
ReplyDeleteCan we dam up the blue river and do East KC like new Orleans? I am tired of driving to the ozarks anyway. We can name it Prospect Lake.
ReplyDeleteSidewalk repair program? The City still refuses or wont publish a prioritized list of repairs. Time for an open records request. The sidewalk program was a carrot to get people to vote Yes.
ReplyDeleteI was only without power for 9hrs today, KCP&L is on the ball!
ReplyDeleteWho cares about flooding and power outages; we have the toy train! I’d even give up indoor plumbing for the thrill I get on that jolly trolly! It makes me feel just like I’m in NYC until we passed by pickups with Bass Pro bumper stickers. :/
ReplyDeleteOddly that underpass in that old, dated photo doesn't flood anymore.
ReplyDeleteWHO FIXED THAT, TONY?
The G.O. bonds passage was the biggest financial scam in KCMO history.
ReplyDeleteSo much money had been diverted from normal budget accounts to cover Sly and Troy's malfeasance, that the G.O. bonds were vital just to keep the city afloat. Otherwise, it was getting harder and harder to hide the shortfalls.
Plus, the public safety budget has continued to balloon every year, with no one willing to control the inflation.
