"Lt. Kelli Bailiff with the Wyandotte County Sheriff's Office said the deputies were transporting inmates to court for a hearing when they were "overcome." The inmate was shackled and in handcuffs. Police believe the inmate used one of the deputies' guns to shoot them."

    I know this will never come up in the reporting but it seems like if he was given his constitutional rights for a quick and speedy trial, then maybe he wouldn't have been so desperate. Three consecutive trials is an awful lot. Double jeopardy was a concern of the founders and that's why our system is supposed to protect against that. I'm not blaming anyone, but understanding the desperation that would inspired somebody to commit these kind of murders is important so that it doesn't happen again. I'm not condoning the awful crime he has been accused of, I'm just trying to remind all of us that we are a nation of laws more than anything else. Those laws must be applied equally to all.

      Incorrect. You can’t spin evil into desperation. Look in to why there were 2 hung juries/mistrials. Not because the system failed him - although it does fail some. He has been known to intimidate witnesses and also jury members. The system failed when innocent people felt they could not be protected. The system failed when this evil was let loose on the street again. The system continues to fail by letting criminals believe they are above the law and are able to resist, assault or kill law enforcement. Look again - the system did not fail him - it failed us. This guy has murdered how many people and walked free for way too long because the system is broke enough that it takes this kind of heinous act for this murderer be brought to justice.

    Obviously don't have the facts on what exactly happened but this should be a wake-up call on the whole equality movement. Female law enforcement should have no business transferring inmates because of this situation. Men are literally stronger than women--and you saw the result today. Maybe the shooter reaches for the male deputy's gun first. This raises a lot of questions. I wonder how the county is going to spin this one.
