KCPD TALK THREE DEADLY KANSAS CITY OFFICER-INVOLVED SHOOTINGS!!! ARE POLICE NOW MORE LIKELY TO SHOOT UNDER REIGN OF NEW CHIEF?!?!
Right now let's consider gunfire aftermath explanation focusing on an exceptionally deadly week in KCMO . . . Also, it's worth noting that NONE of the recent officer-involved Kansas City killings will be added to the local homicide count.
First, a word from KCPD . . .
KCTV5: Kansas City Police Department issues statement on shootings, says it's gathering more facts
"It is a dangerous calling to be an officer. KCPD understands the concern when deadly force is used. We study the science behind its use. We train accordingly over and over again to thoroughly prepare ourselves. The KCPD knows the public wants to know more about today’s events. We are working diligently and professionally to gather additional facts. We will provide more information as soon as it’s confirmed."
Then a statement from the Chief . . .
Chief Smith on today's officer-involved shootings: "Obviously when things like this happen, it's upsetting to a lot of people. It's upsetting to our officers & it's upsetting to this city. ... But I do know we have a duty to protect the people of this city. That's our job."
We might feature the best comments later but here's a question that local newsies are afraid to ask . . . And so we turn to our AWESOME TKC BLOG COMMUNITY in order to, hopefully, inspire a more informed discussion than MSM talking points allow:
IS MORE LIBERAL USE OF DEADLY FORCE BY POLICE HELPING TO KEEP THE KANSAS CITY HOMICIDE COUNT LOWER?!?! IF SO, WILL THE STRATEGY INEVITABLY BACKFIRE?!?!
Whilst the question is provocative, TKC is generally supportive of KCPD and wants to throw this topic out for discussion because politely ignoring the rhetoric from "many sides" is more dangerous than championing an alternative discourse . . . Which is what our blog community does better than any other "place" in KCMO.

KCPD made the right call. Bystanders were at risk of both a woman waiting around a sword and men fighting over a gun. They did the right thing and risked their lives to protect the public.

I hope they start shooting more criminals. It would be appropriate at hip hop concerts, the plaza,, etc. It would also help mitigate the damage done by having such a worthless prosecutor like Jean Petersucker Baker. Like it or not, this is the new normal. The rules for engagement have slackened, the result of leniency on police officers in high-profile officer shootings.
ReplyDeleteWhile violent crime, murders, etc., are significantly down, much, much less than 20 and 30 years ago, we seem to have a more reactive police force.
Part of it is the training -- officers are "warriors" and other nonsense. Part of it is today's younger officers grew up pampered and spoiled and can't handle any amount of stress and they immediately go for their gun.
Argue this, argue that, this is normal and it's not going to change.
