Here's Helling phoning it in and offering a sad bit of content that's more tribute than juxtaposition . . .
KC's best and worst mayors: Where does Sly James rank?
Seriously, this "column" was mostly a waste of time and so-called institutional knowledge of journalists is far more easily & cheaply attained with a Wikipedia search.
To be fair, given his competition, Mayor Sly ranks toward the top of the list of recent KCMO Mayors in all things including spending, debt and waistlines . . .
You decide . . .
I’d say he’s at the bottom and that’s saying a lot, I hated funkytown but he didn’t let developers and big business own his ass so ya, worst mayor ever.
ReplyDelete^^What is "ya" you dumb ass? Did you mean "yea"? Your ignorance renders everything else you said irrelevant.
ReplyDeleteStop the grammar check @8:28. Your bitchiness renders everything else you WROTE irrelevant.
ReplyDeleteAlso 8:11 makes a good point.
Sly is probably one of the worst we've seen.
@8:11AM makes no point. He can't even write!
ReplyDelete^^^@8:29 What is "yea" you dumbass. "Yea" is pronounced yay, like during a formal voting process (the yea's have it). It would be correctly spelled "yeah" in the sentence used by the OP. If you're going to grammar nazi someone, at least be correct. Your ignorance renders everything else you said irrelevant.

Back on topic, my guess regarding the Mayo's rank is that he's the MOST RANK Mayor this ton has ever had!
ReplyDelete^^ Oh my! I misspelled "town"!
ReplyDeleteWill the Goofy Grammar Gremlin let me live?
^^^ Didn't misspell "Mayo" though!
ReplyDeleteSoft, kinda slimy, and (if you're a Developer) easy to spread!
Wrong color though, maybe Chocolate Mayo!
Sly has been terrible but we also had Cleaver, so its a three way tie between those two and our next black, lying, stealing mayor.

Helling's work product on display here is reminiscent of a toddler proud of his poop/vomit finger painting. It's simply a mess. A subjective mess.
ReplyDeleteHelling completely gives a pass to Mayoral dysfunction, presumably because the world didn't end under their leadership.
Kay Barnes: absolutely NO mention of the HORRENDOUS deal with the Cordish Power and Light District, which continues to sink KCMO finances like a millstone around the neck.
Sly James: that James should be in prison for political corruption gets NO mention from the GREAT HELLINGSKI (he's borrowed Kraske's silly writing schtick here) as he's perfectly willing to overlook James' fatal flaws. Burns and McDonnell, record homicides, Mike Burke, ToyTrain, G.O. bonds, etc., Helling has wiped his memory of these things, while repeating the James PR mantra of "I've focused on schools."
Emanuel Cleaver: Cleaver is the poster-child for KCMO failure, and the KC Star editorial board has been one of his primary enablers through the decades. The liberal Democrat echo chamber which is the editorial board would have pulled a Greitens-style media attack against anyone other than a fellow Democrat who's pulled off crimes such as an SBA loan fraud, Green Zone implosion, 18th and Vine money-pit, and family nepotism, just to name a couple. The editorial board has an agreement with KCMO Democrats to take a hands-off approach as long as they stay out of the board members Johnson County KS neighborhoods.
^^Way too long. Did not read.
ReplyDelete^^^ Okay, "Triple G", back in the box!
ReplyDeleteBarnes was the best mayor in my long lifetime. Sure, it cost money, things valuable and important alsways cost. Downtown was a hellhole when Cleaver left office--look at it now. Barnes saved the city--Star says SLy is naming a ballroom for her. She deserves more.
ReplyDeleteI would rank Tony as the worst reporter in KC if it wasn't for Dave Helling.
ReplyDeleteCleaver was hands down the worst mayor of KC and we would have ended up like st louis or baltimore if mayors took a similar approach to him. Plus the entire highway 71 thing is the closest thing to traitorous behavior a mayor can have. We still need to fix that, if it's even possible. I don't hate sly as much as most people, but I didn't vote for him. Seems like the natural reaction after funkhouser.
ReplyDelete^^Blah blah blah. I'm so lonely!
ReplyDeleteI completely blocked out the cleave, my, my, that boy was equally as bad is that bow tie the clown weirdo
ReplyDeleteLeave it to Cleaver...
ReplyDeleteSeems like everything in KCMO is about downtown. 1% of the city, less than 5% of the population but as long as we have a downtown subsidized playground the remainder of the city can continue to decline.
ReplyDeleteHelling was the main promoter of attacks against the Funk coming from the developer group that opposed him. Helling would write and print anything from the anti-Funk group.
ReplyDeleteBefore Funk even took office he was being attacked by operatives and consultants who wanted to control KC on behalf of Baltimore Cordish and other developers. They lost influence when Kay Cronkite Waldo Barnes left office. The bond dealers were also prominent in this group. They had recruited Barnes for Mayor and benefited financially from her term in office. Funk told this writer that Mike Burke was responsible for coordinating the attacks. Glorioso (RIP) played a role.
ReplyDeleteO.K. so if Sly James ranks toward the top of the list of mayors, is his bullhorn going to be on display at Union Station, or on 18th street?
I'll be glad when Sales Tax Sly is gone for good.
ReplyDelete^^I'll be glad when you're gone for good.
