Actually . . . It didn't:

How Robert Altman's 'Kansas City' Helped Revive The Jazz District

Is Robert Altman's 1996 film " Kansas City " responsible for the preservation of the 18th & Vine jazz district? Jazz historian and KCUR Fish Fry host Chuck Haddix says the answer is yes.

  1. I remember Altman. That man liked to drink and get pissy and depressed. Jazz district is for jazz aficionados. Nobody else really cares.

  2. How old was little Jermaine Reed in 1996? He’s now the 3rd District council member that includes 18th and Vine. Wonder if he ever thought he would be elected to represent that area? And wonder if he ever realized he would evolve into such an arrogant annoying prick that no one likes? Wonder if he ever envisioned getting fired from the AMERICAN JAZZ MUSEUM Board by a unanimous vote of his fellow council members? Probably not. Well the entire district, the AJM and Jermaine are huge disappointing failures. He’s learned the hard way about treating people with respect.

  4. Because blacks can’t run anything, except into the ground. Africa, the West Indies, Ballmer, Birmingham, and Detoilet all attest to that. I challenge anyone to prove me wrong.

  8. As my blind jazz teacher KC's own Greg Meise once told me, "there's only two weeks that suck in a musician' year... Christmas week and a week in Kansas City."
