There are known knowns regarding construction and history in Kansas City proper . . . Mostly that it's the pinnacle of civic graft and anybody who asks too many questions or makes too much of a fuss ends up wearing cement shoes. Accordingly, here's nice round-up of a recent, tragic mistake that will cost time & money . . .
Kansas City Airport Stumbles Along
One year ago, Steve Vockrodt of The Kansas City Star wrote an excellent piece on the "original sin" of the airport's new terminal effort. Among his findings was that the then-director of the Aviation Department, Mark VanLoh, did not know that Missouri law required a public vote on airport bonds.
It'll be a fubar snafu clusterfuck just like the toy train
ReplyDeletenetflix should use kcmo for a series.
ReplyDeleteWhere is Council member Teresa Loar with all this airport delay? She spent months/years telling anyone who would listen that KCI needed to simply be renovated. She brought in KC Crawford Architects with a half plan to “renovate the terminals to the bones” completely ignoring the horse shoe shaped terminals were outdated and tremendously difficult to secure in a post 9/11 world. She touted her “years of experience serving on every airport board around.” She told anyone who would listen the public would vote down a single terminal design. She preached it, she ran her mouth about it. She sat and stewed about it. Then the public voted and 70% were FOR a new single terminal. Teresa Loar was exactly on the wrong side of the issue. She embarrassed herself, Crawford Architects, her district constituents and colleagues. She certainly has had time to reflect and should be able to provide great perspective on the delay. Just give her call, she would probably be happy to talk, snipe and bitch. That is if she is not already drunk on her evening glasses of wine. That old hack likes her wine.
ReplyDeleteHow about 10:10 PM, aka, Troy Schulte, dumbing on Loar for raising legitimate questions early on in this completely corrupt KCI terminal replacement process. Be prepared, this won't be $1.4 Billion project, more like $1.8 - $2 Billion!!!
ReplyDeleteWhere's low riding Carol Coe? We want her take on this project.
ReplyDeleteJust another example of how competence, integrity, and common sense go to 12th and oak to die.
ReplyDeleteOn the other hand, it's a den of incompetence, lying, insider deals, D-list celebrity wannabe egos, upside-down priorities, and unaccountable spending.
The 83% of metro residents who don't live in KCMO congratulate their very wise location decision each and every day.
Gee, at 10:10, don't you like Theresa?
ReplyDeleteI can tell you where she is, she's sitting home laughing her ss off as this debacle starts to unwind!
I can't tell which of Sly's flunkies you are, the writing's a bit to literate for Chris or Troy, but you're making a fool of yourself trying to drag out that mythical 70% "voter approval" legend, we all knw who counted the votes, and we know that the official number (actually 72%) was mistakenly released in a City Hall memo two days before the election was held.
Try writing your posts when you're sober, you obviously make a subliminal attack in your last sentence.
This is a prime example of incompetent leadership trying to handle a project they do not even understand. Team Slie is more concerned about keeping citizens oppressed.
ReplyDeletethis is so unsurprising that it's hard to get excited.
ReplyDeletethat is, of course, what the maneuverers counted on from the beginning.
Irrelevant Teresa Loar is always on the wrong side of the issue... with the airport...with the convention hotel...with her support of Quinton Lucas as the next Mayor Messiah...she's a patronizing drunk old hack.
