Another tragic high-profile suicide is marginally connected to favorite pastimes of middle-class Kansas City.
First, the bad news . . .
BBC: Anthony Bourdain - Celebrity chef found dead at 61
Chicago Tribune: Anthony Bourdain dead at age 61 in apparent suicide
People: Anthony Bourdain, Celebrated American Chef, Dead at 61 from Apparent Suicide
And then . . .
KANSAS CITY FOODIES ALWAYS AWAITED BOURDAIN'S ARRIVAL LIKE THE COMING OF A SAVIOR!!!
He talked with the rock/blues band The Black Keys in an iconic segment, he listened locals go on about their meats (ugh) and even offered insight into local history.
His Kansas City episodes were some of his best and his foodie celeb will certainly be missed by the local restaurant scene who bragged about his visits endlessly.
Take a look:
Travel Channel: Tony Bourdain travels to Kansas City, MO, the BBQ capital of the world
Eater: No Reservations' Kansas City Episode: Just the One-Liners
MNT: Anthony Bourdain No Reservations - Meat Me in Kansas City
Daily Motion Full Episode: Anthony Bourdain - No Reservations -- Kansas City
You decide . . .
Give him credit where it's due.
ReplyDeleteHe started the national craze over the Z-man.
I asked friends a few months ago if we have reached PEAK BOURDAIN? In real life the dude was an asshole like so many entertainment and media people are. Too bad. Dude still had some good years left in him.
ReplyDeleteIt was a matter of time, he was a massive, massive alcoholic
ReplyDeleteWhen Bourdain featured the Missouri Ozarks and writer Daniel Woodrell, and Dan fell in the boat while filming a bit on the water, and tore up his shoulder, which later required surgery, Bourdain's production company and CNN would not pay a dime toward Dan's medical expenses. I've disliked his dumb show ever since.

ReplyDeleteAfter an impeccable 9-course meal, Bourdain raved over a Little Debbie snack cake....he exclaimed, "it's to die for!!!"
I heard a MeToo-like campaign was coming at him and he got wind of it. Imagine that, a half-drunk Bourdain saying something borderline inappropriate. Does it justify the MeToo movement b.s. -- absolutely not.
ReplyDeleteLiberial drunk, ex heroin addict and crack head, no real surprise.
ReplyDeleteI figured Bourdain with some of the crap he ate had to rush back to the hotel and sit on the stool for awhile. I mean a lot of the food he ate at those third rate countries I wouldn't touch with a ten foot pole.
ReplyDeleteHe would put out his political views to much on the show also, keep it to yourself and talk about the food and culture dude.
It was funny one time he was in Vegas and he was sampling Bobby Flays food at his restaurant and Bourdain said it was terrible and bad. LOL
ReplyDeleteHe had to get a jab in at Bobby Flay which I thought was hilarious.
Was he and Spade having a fling that was just too much for either to deal with?
ReplyDeleteRemember when Robin Williams killed himself? Remember all the fuss and talk about how we need to be more aware of potential suicides? Remember all the talk, talk, talk about increasing funds for mental health services? Yeah.
ReplyDeleteMr. Bourdain was a tortured individual who fought his demons every day of his life. While he may not have been Man of the Year, he deserves some basic respect upon his death. There but for the grace of God go you.
^^Amen. These geezer haters are deflecting because he was richer, better looking, and more well traveled than they were. They lash out because they know they are soon to depart this mortal coil and there will be no fond remembrances of them.
ReplyDeleteI didn't know the man (or have any personal insights as to his character and demons); all I can say is that his shows were unique and always a pleasure to watch, RIP, Tony.
ReplyDelete11:38 the Nancy's are full of hate and you're correct in saying what you did. The Nancy-Boys hate themselves so bad they attack everyone and anyone. Look at how they ripped chuck on his story and even ripped Super Dave just for saying chuck did something good. Tony needs to run their Nancy butts off.
ReplyDelete^^Yea @1:47PM, because they all said stuff I don't like! Run them off Tony they offend me!!! Waaaaa! You crybaby bitch this is a free-speech zone. if you don't like it, take your geriatric ass back to the home and watch Matlock. You don't belong here. Pussy!
ReplyDeleteDamn straight, 1:47. Too many ingrates and goofs hate on the good guys and gramps who've done right by themselves. It's too bad these hateful, jaded crybabying "kids" had crap for parents/grandparents, or are resentful of tough love families not forking over lifelong gibsmes and willing them any inhertances.
ReplyDelete^^^OK gramps, you're shouting at the wall again. You're going to lose tapioca time if you don't sit back down.
ReplyDeleteWhat channel is Matlock on? I turned the knob on my TV through all 3 channels and can't find it.
ReplyDelete
ReplyDeleteBourdain born to a wealthy jew mother, famous conductor dad --used his connections to land a gig travelling the world, reviewing restaurants--
and HE offs himself??? WTF!
Can you replicate please?
DeleteI remember the time when celebrities died or killed themselves and nobody gave a shit. It was like, oh, sorry to hear that, and now back to my day. Walter Cronkite didn't talk about famous people perishing at their hands. What happened to those days, huh?
ReplyDeleteApparently CNN has taken a break for hating trump on their front page.
ReplyDeleteI am surprised that it took this long. Always thought that he was a little off. So sad for his child. But just how much time did he spend with her.
