TKC SUNDAY MUST SEE!!! FAIR WAGE ACTIVISTS ORGANIZE POOR PEOPLE'S KANSAS CITY CAMPAIGN KICK-OFF!!!

Whilst Kansas City newsies are still stuck in a rut over a Kansas City street rename debate that Mayor Sly has seemingly outsmarted . . . As always, our blog community stays one step ahead of the game and offers FIRST LOOK at tomorrow's news cycle.

To wit . . .

KANSAS CITY ACTIVISTS ARE FURIOUSLY ORGANIZING FOR THE MONDAY MORNING LOCAL KICK-OFF OF THE POOR PEOPLE'S CAMPAIGN!!!

The nationwide call to action with a fierce faction from Kansas City offers historical tribute to the legacy of MLK and his final crusade.

The Last March of Martin Luther King Jr. - In the months leading up to his assassination, King’s greatest focus was on poverty and economic injustice.

Even better, here's a look at tomorrow's 50th anniversary tribute to the ongoing movement:

Get Ready for the Poor People’s Campaign

And so, because our blog community leads the local news cycle . . . Here's a Sunday glimpse at talking points to start the week.

Poor People's Campaign: Season of Non-Violent Direct Action Launch

6 AM - Send off march in KCMO - 3230 Troost Ave
10 AM - Mobilize for Jefferson City Action - 327 E Capitol Ave Jeff City, MO
11:30 AM - March to State Capitol

The season of non-violent direct action is upon us. Across America, the Poor People’s Campaign is wielding collective action in May and June to abolish the “Triple Evils” of racism, economic exploitation, and militarism. We launch our season of non-violence on May 14 in Jefferson City and state capitols across America to target the epicenters of the country’s attacks on democracy and equality.

Join us at 6am as we march in KC and send off our multi-racial movement to Jefferson City. Black, white, and brown are coming together to meet the attacks on all Americans -- the poor, unions, workers, immigrants and refugees, the LGBTQ community, women, and low wage workers. At 12pm in Jefferson City, join the mass marches, rallies, and non-violent moral direct that will make history across the country.

We launch our Poor People’s Campaign on May 14th to win the battle for America to be what it ought to be: A place where “opportunity is real, and life is free,” and “equality is in the air we breathe!” as Langston Hughes so beautifully said. The time is now!

  1. They should get a good turnout. Maybe even a few people that they didn't have to pay.

But this is Missouri and labor is under attack in Jeff City. They're going to sneak right to work in under the radar and the minimum wage increase is already going down in flames. Good luck to these activists, they're going to need it.

    1. ^^^ Really curious why people seem to fight for their right to earn substandard wages and to be exploited. These people are doing the right thing, time to break the cycle of poverty!

    2. Or is it the march against small business?

While they're marching, the robots are learning how to make and serve fries for far less than $15 and hour.

    And faster.

  3. Multi racial my ass, we all know who the largest group of people who want this and that's the group that doesn't want to work to begin with.

    ^^^ Russian bot.

    Kansas City supports this effort.

We voted for a higher wage, now it's time to secure our rights!

    1. Because money just comes from nowhere you guys! This hasn't already predictably resulted in companies opting for kiosks and robots over entitled and inefficient labor at all! Lol

Anyway, the only Russian bots are in your tiny mind.

    2. Love the U.S.A.5/13/18, 8:12 PM

^^^ Straight from the Russian troll farm factory.

You hate your own country and side with a president propped up by foreign money. AMERICANS want higher wages and you're out here defending corporations that do most of their business out of the Cayman Islands.

Obvious to see where you are coming from TRAITOR!

    3. Um yeah no. Just FYI, there was zero collusion, but that assessment depends on a grip of reality I'm not sure you have.

The point is that economically you don't alter wages without an effect. Giving everyone a raise sounds wonderful, but in the adult world labor is by far the largest expense. Right or wrong, raise labor costs and someone pays the price.

I love my country so much that I despise the empty and deteriorating Russophobe propaganda of the butthurt left. You lost. Own it. Come up with a platform beyond hating the duly elected POTUS.

  8. Why would black people care about minimum wage? Welfare doesn’t pay by the hour.

    ReplyDelete
  9. Pay the people.

When you cheat your workers, they will stop working for you eventually.

KC should support this because it helps the people who work every day and not the greedy developers who are selling out our city.

Republican or Democrat - The goal is to put Americans back to work and to do that you're going to have to pay them a competitive wage. Even Trump has talked about raising salaries. The time is now.

  12. Support working people! We need to stand up against corporations and fight against stuff like right to work which will drop wages throughout Missouri.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Right to work will raise wages for good workers. Union slackers beware.

    ReplyDelete
  14. 4:21 what do you know about union workers? Nothing apparently or you wouldn’t say stupid shit like that

  15. A really weak attempt at copying the MLK March on Washington.
    Same issues.
But no articulate leader, or really a leader of any kind.
Just the latest "march of the day".
Will the media be there? Of course!
Will there be selfies and fiery speeches of unknown people hoping to break into the protest big time? Sadly, yes.
Will there be Hollywood "celebrities" flying in from Malibu to show how much they care instead of having the guts to fix their own industry? No doubt.
Will any of this make any difference at all?
    No, not a bit.
Work hard in school, get a good education, apply yourself an do the best job you can for the people paying you, earn a living, and join the reality of the rest of society.
    People do it every day!

  24. Bill Bolinger5/14/18, 9:26 AM

75 'white' 44 yrs auto worker. Look at the racists spew their ignorance. Even CBS 5:30 PM news several months ago said of all the wealth created in 2017 than the top 1% got 82% of that and the top 49% divided up the rest of it. The lowest 50% of the population got none of that wealth. The poor are 7% worse off than they were in 1974 dollars. Then sales taxes have gone up a lot and everything one buys has sales taxes and the poor are hit the hardest. Many work two jobs and some three and still quality for food stamps etc. not that everyone gets anything. We are still paying taxes on food and medicines which makes no sense for a country that really cares about its's people. Now Trump and Company are cutting everything for the people and gave massive tax cuts to the rich. I heard people say the economy is the best in a long time. Well we will see how long that last. Economist are warning of another recession. Millions lose every time that happens. I was fortunate to work for 44 yrs at good pay and benefits won by the UAW and the labor movement. College education UMKC in Economics and History with tuition paid by the company. Company stock at a discount. Good retirement for 11 yrs now. One of the fortunate and I help those by paying for car repairs, new refrigerator, window ac unit and install etc for those less fortunate than myself! Took some on Christmas vacation with me.One 23 daughter to California 3 weeks car trip. Help their children go to college and trade school., etc. I do not keep all for myself!

  25. ^I don't know Bill Bolinger, but he seems to have a number of things figured out--which SAYS a lot more than most of the racist and ignorant verbiage spewed above.
