TKC MUST SEE!!! LATEST UMKC SCHEME IMAGINES CONSERVATORY AT DOWNTOWN KANSAS CITY BARNEY ALLIS PLAZA!!!

Here's a Kangaroo scheme that's not gonna work but makes for a somewhat threatening proposition for Downtown denizens fearing the onset of the "creative" class crowding the loop and in line to garner more taxpayer subsidy.

Checkit:

"University of Missouri-Kansas City officials announced they will seek proposals, described as a “request for interest (RFI),” for a new arts facility that would house not only the Conservatory of Music and Dance, but the Department of Theatre as well. UMKC’s plan to issue an RFI later this month will have at least one downtown location -- Barney Allis Plaza."

Luckily, Jeff City and not just embattled Gov Greitens have shut down this idea and nixed funding.

  1. Does anyone realize jus how much money Kansas City invested in creating Barney Allis Olaza with a world renowned architect from Japan, I believe. This public space will be of international historic interest for years to come, unlike the junk that will be thrown up by UMKC.

  2. Barney Allis Plaza is a waste of space at this point. It's an underutilized city block right in the middle of downtown. Other than the underground parking (which needs to be updated) it's a waste of space. Put up a great park in the middle of the city that will help downtown residents or build over it. City should sell the space or give it away it return for more parking (i.e. big building with lots of convention parking). Would have been a great spot for the new downtown hotel. Too bad it's not enough space for a downtown ballpark...

  6. Fuck UMKC. They already mooch way too much taxpayer money. We don’t need to subsidize their faggot art students downtown

  8. 8:42 Hates open space. "is a waste of space" "build over it" "more parking (i.e. big building with lots of convention parking). Would have been a great spot for the new downtown hotel. Too bad it's not enough space for a downtown ballpark..."

Yeah, we need to build more shit downtown!

He should go to NYC and help them build over all that wasted space in Central Park.

  9. Hey, I have an opinion! Let me express it here! We are doing good work here guys! Let's keep this going! The city is really listening to us on this! We are changing this city for the better!

  10. Actually, this is a GREAT idea.

Hope they can find funding for it.

  11. Is that what really is gonna cost 63 million to the Barney allis plaza? Just a couple weeks ago they said they were redoing the park for 63 million because that makes more sense if they plan on putting a building there. There is no way in hell rebuilding a park that small cost 63 million dollars, no freakin way.

  12. ^^Damn right, no no no. We can't do this! Why? Oh God why are they proposing improvements? Why do they want to modernize anything? Oh no why, why why? Don't they know everything costs money? Oh no!

  16. Why the hate for UMKC? True, it's not the greatest institution, but the Conservatory and Department of Theatre produce many talented graduates. I'm hoping the folks in Jeff City change their minds about this project. And I don't think Barney Allis Plaza is going to be involved. The land for the project has already been set aside.
