In our new TKC WATERWORLD SPECIAL REPORT series we've uncovered shocking deets that offer a perspective on a worsening resource crisis for Kansas City residents.
Background:
- In 2016-2017 The Kansas City Water department recorded around 18,000 shutoffs for delinquent payments.
- The record for annual KC Water shutoffs is 22,000 during the '09 -10 global recession.
- Hardship relief that amounts to only around $350 is available for only around 800-1000 customers annually.
And now . . .
INSIDERS REVEAL THE KANSAS CITY WATER DEPARTMENT IS ON PACE TO BREAK HISTORIC SHUTOFF NUMBERS AS MORE HOME OWNERS ARE DELINQUENT THIS YEAR!!!
Remember that the number of shutoffs usually increases over the Summer/Fall season. Official numbers are only recorded quarterly and usually downplayed by local politicos and MSM.
Nevertheless . . .
What we can confirm is that the KCMO shutoff number is quickly approaching the 10K mark which is close to 20% higher than usual for this time of year and requests for water bill payment assistance are drowning the Mid-America Assistance Coalition in a deluge of emergency calls.
Developing . ..
KCMo = home to deadbeats.
ReplyDeleteSad because you don't hear Sly or any of the council talk about anything they can do to fix the problem. They should be confronted on it but that would force them to shill for Burns & mac even more than usual.
DeleteStock up on gallon jugs.
You're gonna need them.
The really sad part of the story is that when there are more delinquent customers that increases the cost even higher for everyone else.
DeleteLook for another spike for the Summer.
Welcome to KCMO.
Approximately 15 years ago I paid approximately $45.00 every two months. Now I pay approximately $115.00 per month. I have no problem paying. I am not poor. We are getting ripped off. What about the poor people? We need an audit!
ReplyDeleteIt was more like 5 years ago
ReplyDeleteKC price gouging contracts. That's what we need to look at in order to reduce costs.
ReplyDeleteWhen a city gives away its property tax base to subsidize "developers", then adds to that future revenues by including TIFs, spends funds designated for infrastructure maintenance on studies for toys like streetcars, and thoughtlessly moves money around from fund to fund to pay for the BIG THING of the day, it has to constantly looks for new sources of money.
ReplyDeleteUtility bills, sales taxes, and fees, and pretty much anything else that isn't nailed down are increased to pay for activities and services that have NOTHING to do with the bills they produce.
It's not a system.. It's a scam
Which shell is the pea under today?
That’s right and every current council member running for re-election and Mayor should be questioned on this in detail!!
Delete@Citizen.. . 15 years should be your clue. Yep, we are all getting ripped off from the good old days. Now if my damn cell phone charges would go back as well.. Ugh! @8:09 you might be on to something.
ReplyDeleteThey continue to pull $$ out of the water department to fund downtown development and pay off loans.
ReplyDeleteThe east side councilmembers continue to vote for it, it’s their constituents that are getting slammed. Jermaine pulled $47
Million out of the water department and gave it to the streetcar. Shameful.
Tony is aiming for an award in journalism.
ReplyDeleteYeah another story that jackass excuse for a city hall journalist Bill Turque ignores. Good government requires good journalism.
DeleteCost of living is skyrocketing disproportionately in urban kc, it's a consequence of the current leadership. But they're still spending and borrowing like there is no tomorrow and calling it prosperity.
ReplyDeleteIt's extortion, IF YOU OR I PRICE GOUGED, OR EXTORTED MONEY FROM PEOPLE WE WOULD BE BROUGHT UP ON CHARGES OR RACKETEERING. HI,ITS LOUIE WHERE IS MY $120.00,FOR MY WATER.
ReplyDeleteI bet many of these soon-to-be thirsty folks have new IPhones and aren't behind on their cell phone bill... #priorities
ReplyDelete^^Moron
ReplyDeleteKCMO water bill =$175 per month, family of four
ReplyDeleteNice how many pure, upright, bright-eyed progressives shower hate on the poor when the toy train or local Dem politicians are in danger: if Trump can't be blamed, it isn't a problem.
ReplyDeleteA $200 water bill isn't a picnic for the poor even if Sy James is the Mayor. I don't care how many iPhones they have, stuff it. Drop the talking points about the g-d EPA and fix the problem.
Slie should be proud of KCMO going for 2 records this year.
ReplyDeleteNumber of water shutoffs and number of murders. Question is which one will break the record first. I am sure City Hall will turn this into some kind of contest and charge $1 per entry.
Not my fault they want air Jordan’s instead of water, their own fault nobody else’s
ReplyDeleteKansas City Water Department= A city ran dept that uses that money for personal pet projects. We need to demand and audit!! It will be the biggest story of corruption in 25 yrs!
ReplyDeletean audit or management consulting review might be in order.
ReplyDeleteregular nice people and all people are being screwed and nobody is being held accountable.
Billions going to Burns & Mac, and they all live in Leawood and Lee's Summit! STOP THE CORRUPTION!!!!!
ReplyDeleteWhere is the outrage that Spectrum cable, with a KCMO franchise, has increased basic cable by 50% over two years. With lowest level internet. Brookside and Ward Parkway may enjoy several competing cable companies, but many neighborhoods do not.
ReplyDeleteWater is now unaffordable in KCMO. Yet the director gets over $170,000 per year. Not to mention 8+ deputy directors making $140,000 each.
