TKC BREAKING AND EXCLUSIVE NEWS!!! KANSAS CITY INSIDER: ADVISORY GROUP WORKING TOWARD UNANIMOUS VOTE FOR NEW KCI AIRPORT MLK TRIBUTE!!!
Behind the scenes, insiders are working toward making national news with the BILLION DOLLAR new Kansas City airport.
Accordingly . . .
Credit to the best & brightest & AWESOME Kansas City insiders for this perspective . . .
THE MLK ADVISORY GROUP IS WORKING DILIGENTLY TOWARD A UNANIMOUS VOTE TO NAME THE NEW KCI IN HONOR OF CIVIL RIGHTS LEGEND MARTIN LUTHER KING JR.!!!
This would accomplish a lot of goals and make NATIONAL NEWS for Kansas City . . .
Also . . .
- The name would be an important reminder for minority participation during new airport construction.
- The group is clearly thinking beyond neighborhood politics and looking to make a MAJOR announcement that will resonate beyond city limits.
- The risk of creating another dividing line in KCMO would be negated.
More to the point, we have to give Mayor Sly James credit here . . .
The Revs claimed that MLK Blvd would inspire financial growth & investment along Paseo and only Mr. James openly questioned that thesis and asked for evidence given that we're all familiar with the old Chris Rock joke on this topic. Sadly, there's no proof that the MLK name alone sparks economic prosperity and so the discussion moved forward.
Accordingly . . .
WHAT DO YOU THINK OF A NEW MLK KCI???
To be fair, a lot can change betwixt now and Sunday but reading local headlines closely it's clear this move has been telegraphed.
Actually, it's a pretty forward thinking idea that might offer the "25-million" annual visitors to this cowtown some insight regarding the values of Kansas City.
You decide . . .
I'm not against it. At least with the airport you avoid the problem of security and watching the block go to crap. The airport is more of a symbol than a neighborhood or a park. Not a bad idea. I hope the mayor will support this effort.
ReplyDeleteNo corporation working on the airport would oppose the name. But I disagree about minority hiring, I think putting this name on your list of projects makes up for actually having to hire a diverse workforce.
DeleteBetter than the Sly James airport indeed.
DeleteWonderful news, I have my fingers crossed the group can come to the right decisions. KC's honor to MLK is bigger than one street. Thank the tipsters Tony. Great news!
ReplyDeleteToo bad, I was hoping for the Alice Cooper airport. That guy had some great songs.
DeleteOr we could name the airport after some other icon who never visited Kansas City. Stokely Carmichael Baggage Pickup Carousel! Louis Farrakhan Airport Shopping Mall & Dining Center (sorry, no Kosher food available)!
ReplyDeleteThe day that the black power brokers realized that Democrats would never be elected to any office beyond Dog Catcher without at least 90% of the black vote has had some pretty comical outcomes. Martin Luther King Airport would be one of them. You go, Ministers! Play those Democratic politicians like the cheap violins they are!
I am shocked that the new Jackson County Jail won't have the MLKjr moniker on it. I see that as a place that many young black men congregate anyway. You could actually have KCPS install an elementary school in the jail so they could be rehabilitated and go to school every day since they usually don't. It would reduce the drop out percentage and maybe get the district accreditation too. Win-win.
ReplyDelete^^^^^ LOL!
ReplyDeleteSomeone had better check to see what his estate will charge us to license his name for such an "honor". Likely a lot more than they charge to let you name a street after him.
ReplyDeleteI don't think anything should be named after MLK except a high school for illiterate inner city scholars.
ReplyDeletethe delusion of traditional family values in this town leads to a bunch of timid, creatively dead folk who don't do shit unless they are appropriately mocked, and then they make it clear that mocking them with more constructive alternatives may not be a waste of their time but it sure as hell is a waste of yours.
ReplyDeleteStupid idea.
ReplyDeleteI wonder how much the city will have to pay the King family for the rights to the name?
ReplyDeleteOur tax dollars at work.
Let's ask the King family in advance how much it would cost then decide.
DeleteHell let's ask up front how much for each suggestion !
DeleteSave on lettering; just call it Ghetto International.
ReplyDeleteMLK has zero relationship or relevance to KC. Silly idea other than to placate people.
ReplyDeleteAl Sharpton airport.
ReplyDeleteHARRY TRUMAN AIRPORT!
ReplyDeleteHis forcing integration down the throats of all the Armed Forces in 1947 did more for "Equality" and "Civil Rights" that ANYTHING accomplished in the 1960s!
DANIEL BOONE AIRPORT. HE SPENT TIME IN KANSAS CITY.Name something after MLK,this city has bigger problems to dwell on a monument.
ReplyDeleteNo other airport in the world is named after MLK because his name is licensed and you have to pay huge amounts to get the name and likeness to use it. Even his memorial in DC paid a huge sum to make a memorial using the name and likeness. Not what MLK was all about so don't make the mistake of using it at our airport. It does not help the community.
ReplyDeleteNotice that his kids don't wear clothes from Walmart, they get their stuff at Nordstroms or other high end retailers.
Hell no. Hey why don’t we rename the plaza to MLK plaza while we are at it. Rename Royals stadium from “the K” to “the MLK”. Right? Just slap MLK all over schools, stadiums, and streets while the very people he worked hard for destroy themselves and their communities.
ReplyDeleteIf MLK had been assasinated by a black, his”legacy” wouldn’t be half of what it’s been made it into today. The guy’s past was pretty shady. And, like so many other posters have stated, he has no history in KC either. There are plenty of prominent Kansas Citians to name an airport after, though KCI is the best choice of all.
ReplyDeleteIt makes no sense because MLK has nothing to do with us here in KC. I prefer people with local ties...if we're even going to name the airport after a person. Why not Charlie Parker airport or something? He's a well known local figure and if they're going for a diversity quota, that works too. Same goes for renaming streets. I'd rather things be named after him or Big Joe Turner than someone who had no ties here.
ReplyDeleteRacial Pandering and a dumb idea. Overall it will have a negative effect on the airport and the city. I always avoid driving on any street named MLK. Why? Because it means I am in the wrong part of town.
ReplyDeleteBut it will enrich the MLK family.
Total bull shit. The reat if the world will incorrectly attach Kansas City as having something to do with MLK. He never visited here ! Stupid, just plain dumb. Makes use look like he was born here and to pay for the rights ? Are we f___king insane ?
ReplyDeleteNot insane just racist
DeleteOur nick name will be Ni__er City.
ReplyDeleteMake
Liberals
Kool
Let Memphis name their airport after him. His name has nothing to do with this region.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Connie
ReplyDeleteMLK has zero relationship or relevance to KC. Silly idea other than to placate people.
How about this kind of concentrated action on getting thugs off the streets first?
^^or at least, you off this blog.
ReplyDelete^^^^ only you need to go
ReplyDeleteI agree with super Dave
ReplyDeleteI think we should also name something after James Earl Ray. He was an AMerican hero.
ReplyDeleteWe already have Ray-Town.
ReplyDeleteI don't agree with stupid dave.
ReplyDeleteWhy I ask does a few select people think we have to name everything around here after some black person? If they didn't have a thing to do with building Kansas City what right do they have to get anything named after them? KCI has been such for years why does it have to be renamed? The same applies to the Paseo. I noticed that Cleaver hasn't stood up and said that the street named after him could be changed to MLK Blvd. If KCI were to be renamed it should be named after past Mayor Ilus W. Davis who campaigned to get it built in the late 60"s early 70's not MLK who did what for Kansas City?
ReplyDeleteTerrible idea....
ReplyDeleteWhy is everything have to be named or politicized?
If the race card continues to be used to get their way sooner or later everything will be named after black people. Give in to a crying baby once and you have a problem.
ReplyDeleteMartin Luther King, Jr. is the icon of a failed idea!
ReplyDeleteHow long after the name change will the first robbery, shooting, and murder be?
ReplyDeleteAlso, won’t this be the only black street in a white part of town?
Sure Love it MLK MCI KCI WHATEVER How much per ticket will go to the King family...
ReplyDeleteI had a dream the city named it Midcontinent international airport mci
ReplyDeleteSomehow, the IATA will have to be confronted on a name change. Somehow, it's still going to be KCI.
ReplyDeleteName it after Funkhouser, the only mayor in recent history that was there for the people, and not as a political stepping stone. Also the least corrupt mayor we've had in a while.
