Entire Kansas City metro area under thunderstorm watch

The National Weather Service has issued a severe thunderstorm watch for the entire metro area, 15 counties in Kansas and 22 counties in Missouri. The watch is scheduled to last until 10 p.m. Anderson, Douglas, Franklin, Jefferson, Johnson, Leavenworth, Linn, Miami and Wyandotte counties are under the watch in Kansas.

Kansas City-based transportation company zTrip Inc. says it will boost the safety and security of passengers with the purchase of equipment from another local company. ZTrip will buy 450 video event recorders from Lenexa-based Digital Ally Inc. The devices provide audio and video recordings of driver-passenger interactions, along with information on the location, speed and maintenance of vehicles.

22 people displaced after Overland Park apartment building destroyed by fire

Firefighters with Overland Park and Leawood battled a two-alarm apartment fire early Monday morning. Crews were called just before 4:30 a.m. to the 8800 block of West 121st Terrace at the Spring Hill Apartments. Firefighters arriving on the scene reported fire visible from blocks away. A second alarm was immediately called.

Man charged with DWI after hitting Grandview bus, sending 8 students to hospital

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - A man is facing charges after allegedly hitting a Grandview school bus, sending several students to the hospital and fleeing the scene Saturday evening. Coley Gene Waters is charged with driving while intoxicated, two counts of second-degree assault, leaving the scene of an accident, and operating a motor vehicle in a careless manner.
