DISGRACE!!! LATEST KANSAS CITY TOY TRAIN STREETCAR RIDERSHIP NUMBERS DROP NEARLY 20% AMID RIGGED PRIVATE MAIL-IN BALLOT EXPANSION SCHEME!!!
There's a private mail-in "ballot" being circulated among a few select Midtown residents which excludes nearly all of Kansas City despite a recent election which demanded participation for all voters within city limits.
However . . .
UNREPORTED BY ANY LOCAL MEDIA OUTLET SO FAR . . . THE LATEST KANSAS CITY TOY TRAIN STREETCAR NUMBERS HAVE DROPPED BY A HORRIFIC MARGIN YEAR TO DATE!!!
Here are the ridership totals taken directly from the KC Streetcar site:
APRIL 2017: 188,171
APRIL 2018: 153,040
Accordingly . . .
THAT'S A KANSAS CITY TOY TRAIN STREETCAR RIDERSHIP DECREASE OF 18.67% DESPITE REALLY NICE WEATHER!!!
And so . . .
While Kansas City talks expansion, what's missing from the conversation is an evaluation of these numbers which indicate the popularity of this mode of transit has peaked and now suffers serious decline.
Developing . . .
This year it has been a mixed bag month to month.
ReplyDeleteFebruary was done because of he weather but March was slightly up. Are we seeing the same kind of love for the streetcar that it enjoyed the first year. Probably not but a falloff should have been expected.
It's a toy.
DeleteFun the first few times but after that the novelty is gone. I understand that we need to support what has already been built but spending $230 million to improve the toy is a huge waste.
Just wait to see how low the numbers go when they inevitably have to start charging to ride
ReplyDeleteThe first 20 days of April were not really nice! It was cold, snowing and raining! Sorry to bust your narrative!
ReplyDelete^^^ It's Kansas City, it gets cold. Sorry to destroy your argument.
ReplyDelete^^ Hey asshole, don't you know the streetcar doesn't work in the rain.
ReplyDelete...or in the heat of summer.
ReplyDeleteNot sure the argument of "Streetcar ridership is only viable for five months out of the year due to weather" is really the path you want to go down.
ReplyDeleteTracy Thomas would be saying, "I adore the streetcar I think it is great that Kansas City provides this for free so I and all my fiends from Johnson County can come ride it for free and not have to support the operation of it with our tax dollars. Yes, please add on to it so we can ride longer and further."
ReplyDeleteFixed rail fair weather only transit.
ReplyDeleteI have comments, but i am no longer participating, b/c it is a waste of my fckn time.
ReplyDeleteI was paid by KCMO to ride the train 20 times a day for 6 months last year.
ReplyDeleteI'm currently en route to Santa Fe, Texas, to work as a 'crisis actor.'
Somehow I almost believe you!
ReplyDeleteIf the toy train ridership is down then evidently the target of 25 million visitors was not reached.
ReplyDeleteChristine Lynde is a pay check role model.
ReplyDeleteEver since they started charging for parking in the City Market lots the park-n-riders to work downtown are not riding. Since they have to now pay to park somewhere closer to their work they don't have the added time of 15-20 each way riding the free streetcar to their office just to save on parking. There were probably a couple of hundred daily ride numbers that are now gone from the phony headcount now.
ReplyDeleteIf they ever start charging you will see true decline in riders.
ReplyDeleteHomeless riding the free trolley falls off in warmer weather.
ReplyDeleteOld technology streetcars are taking hits all over the country as ride sharing becomes more popular! Only KCMO would make a new investment in old technology
ReplyDelete$230 million would pay for 23 million $10 rider sharing rides. But how would it reward contractors, lawyers, engineers, architects, bond salesmen, politicians, etc and all the others feeding at the taxpayers' trough???
ReplyDeleteAfter the City spends $250 million to extend the streetcar to UMKC by 2021, the two-mile streetcar riders will soon realize that it will take FOREVER for the streetcar to toot too all the way to the Plaza. It's no faster than a bus. In fact, a bus is probably faster. When they realize it will take them 40 minutes to go from downtown to Westport, they'll opt for ride-sharing shuttles that go door to door, especially when they are autonomous driving vehicles that will be everywhere by 2025 if not sooner. I can hear the sound of those streetcar tracks being ripped up again in 2025.
ReplyDeleteIt will take an hour one way to go from downtown to UMKC if there are no trucks or cars parked over the white lines blocking access. It will take 30 minutes for the police and a tow truck to come and ticket and tow the offender. This happens multiples times a day now just downtown. If the cops have to keep using their scarce officers to patrol the streetcar line instead of dealing g with crime, the public won't be happy.
ReplyDeleteThat’s still a lot of homeless dudes.
ReplyDeleteNo surprise about falling ridership. The streetcar goes nowhere, and the novelty has worn off for most people. Unless you are lucky enough to score one of the few seats, you spend the ride standing up and trying to maintain your balance. Even the 25 million visitors aren't interested in the free ride.
