Chief Smith Blog: KCPD doubles officers dedicated to working with neighborhoods
Deets:
The Kansas City Missouri Police Department now has twice as many police officers dedicated to working directly with neighborhoods. As promised, two Community Interaction Officers now are assigned to each of our six patrol divisions. The second set started March 26. That makes for a dozen officers who are dedicated to working proactively to empower neighborhoods, resolve ongoing issues and prevent crime.
Historically, Community Interaction Officers (CIOs) at KCPD have helped facilitate communication between the Police Department and the residents of Kansas City. They encourage residents to be actively involved in anti-crime efforts and promote community support for the police department through positive interaction and partnerships with the community. CIOs meet with members of the community on a regular basis to address specific community problems and plausible solutions.

Will it work???
You decide . . .
This is a great start.
ReplyDeleteBut without support from prosecutors and judges there are limits to what police on the streets can do.
No support from sLIE either
ReplyDeleteSmith better be careful or the ACLU will be after the KCPD.
ReplyDeleteYes the record of the past seven years shows this time it will work.
ReplyDelete^^^ LOL
ReplyDeleteAnd as soon as the local civil rights organizations, the assorted revs, and any other hangers-on get finished up with focusing on renaming a street, divvying up the sales tax money from the new "Prospect Corridor" project, and other important issues, maybe they'll even the chief and the PD a hand.
ReplyDeleteLast year over 87% of the KCMO murder victims were black and the percentage of perpetrators was surely higher than that.
It's certain the regular folks and retirees who live in east side neighborhoods would sure appreciate some attention, focus, and success in making their communities safer.
Finally! The MAGIC PLAN that will work.
ReplyDeleteNo worries, folks. This time is for realz. Problem(s) solved.
Murder count stands at 30? Let me guess ... niggas killing niggas. That’s an unemployment solution in my book.
ReplyDeleteGee, what else can we do and how much more money can we spend to stop, or even slow down, black violence without the support of the black community who doesn't see any problem with violent attacks on family, stranger, women, kids, anyone.
ReplyDeleteUltimately, the goal has to be to contain the killing to the traditional zip codes that have seen this activity for the past several years. You can't stop what the community had no interest in stopping but you can control the spread.
ReplyDeleteSo if it's exactly at the same point as last year why are you calling it a SPIKE?
ReplyDeleteMakes no sense.
I think it might be because two years before that the rate was much less. More of a trend than a spike but no matter how you split hairs, more people are getting killed.
ReplyDeleteThere is NO fixing black violence.
ReplyDeleteIt's genetics. You can't fix stupid.
Truth!
ReplyDeleteYep, cannot put a cop in every house to wait for immaturity and a gun to raise its ugly head.
ReplyDeleteMake them real cops again and buy them extra ammo. That will go farther in fixing the violent crime problem.
ReplyDeleteWe need more cops on the street not social workers.
ReplyDeleteSomething has to be done to keep the murder rate from continuing to climb. If thinking outside the box, trying new methods, and using what works can accomplish this, then we all benefit. Anyone who continues to believe violent crime only affects certain areas and zip codes is sadly and seriously deluded. Like it or not, it's everywhere and as a community we should all be invested in some way in helping to find a solution as well as supporting those who are tasked with enforcing the laws rather than being at war with them. That solves nothing.
