TKC MUST READ!!! MAYOR SLY JAMES PENS LETTER TO KANSAS CITY STUDENT WALKOUT PROTESTERS AMID COLUMBINE ANNIVERSARY GUN RIGHTS DEBATE!!!

This letter from Kansas City's top ranking politico pays begrudging respect to Constitutional Rights but then goes on to tout the same talking points pushed by rapid opponents of the 2nd Amendment.

Amid a litany of events this day marks, in just a few moments students across the nation will walkout of class in order to protest gun violence and demand policy reform.

We've highlighted the important passages revealing that Mayor Sly's beautiful words FAIL to offer even a hint of a viable solution for reducing so much local gun violence despite his allegiance to this popular movement championed by youngsters and progressive political interests.

A Letter from Mayor Sly James to Students for the National School Walkout Day

To: The Students of Kansas City
From: Mayor Sly James
RE: April 20, 2018 National School Walkout Day

Dear Student Leaders:

Let me first tell you how proud I am of you for persisting in this effort to make your schools, and by extension our cities, safer by demanding common sense gun laws.

Although some misguided pundits and politicians have chosen to attack you rather than the problem, you have remained committed to your principles and vision. Make no mistake, however, most of those who profit from the proliferation of guns and the political campaign funding that goes with it have provided little or no evidence that they are now open to enacting reasonable changes in our gun laws or systems.

There are those with public voices who choose to portray your (our) position as a zero sum game. They argue that what we stand for is offensive to the Second Amendment and calls for the government to ban the rights of law abiding citizens to own guns. Don’t let these voices speak for you, especially in light of the fact that they are deliberately misstating our position. They are experts at using hyperbole and fear to avoid change to a system that benefits them. The problem is, however, that there is evidence and data that shows that lives can be saved without infringing on the Second Amendment.

Massachusetts had the lowest gun death rate in the country in 2016 of 3.5 per 100,000 and earned the number 1 gun safety rank. Massachusetts has managed to drastically reduce gun deaths in their state by adopting 4 of seven common sense laws, while Missouri has enacted none of the seven laws, Missouri, by contrast was ranked 45 with a gun death rate of 18.78 per 100,000 . Kansas has a gun safety rank of 29 with 13.17 deaths per 100,000 while enacting none of the seven laws while Illinois ranks 15 with 11.64 deaths per 100,000 after enacting one of the seven laws. (“Seven Steps. 27,000 Lives,” The Boston Globe, March 23, 2018) The lower gun death rate in Massachusetts can be significantly attributed to common sense gun laws the state began to pass and implement at least two decades ago. And, so far, after so long, there has been no reported revolution or revolt in Massachusetts by mobs of gun owners protesting the abrogation of the Second Amendment in that state.

Although the number of gun deaths can be influenced by multiple factors such as the rate of ownership, education, and economic well-being, clearly common sense laws can both co-exist with the Second Amendment and help to save lives. Shouldn’t saving lives be a governmental goal and priority or is it all about the money?

I want you to know that although I can’t be with you for the walkout commemorating the 19th anniversary of the Columbine school shooting on the 20th, I will remain with you as we continue to fight for our lives for the years to come. I join your efforts to make your schools safer but I also join your efforts as a means to hopefully stop the daily slow motion mass murders on the streets of our city.

Make no mistake that although it may take years to make effective change in our laws and attitude about guns, it is a fight worth having and a goal worth achieving. If we stay committed, continue to stand together, and VOTE responsibly, we can and will save lives.

I wish you the best and proudly support your efforts.

Sincerely,

Mayor Sly James

  2. Be fair to the mayor. He has at least tried to push some legislation forward but it was quickly killed by the Missouri legislature who are more than content to take away our city's ability to do anything to help fight the violence on our streets.

The blame lies in Jeff City that is becoming dysfunctional. Just look at the governor.

  3. I would suggest, that if the skolars want to skip skool, then they should be asked before they walk out, "Who is Madame Marie Curie?"

    On this date, April 20th, 1902 -

"On April 20, 1902, Marie and Pierre Curie successfully isolate radioactive radium salts from the mineral pitchblende in their laboratory in Paris. In 1898, the Curies discovered the existence of the elements radium and polonium in their research of pitchblende. One year after isolating radium, they would share the 1903 Nobel Prize in physics with French scientist A. Henri Becquerel for their groundbreaking investigations of radioactivity."

    Curie was a true hero.

My guess is, that the fuckin Mayor, nor, any of the skolars have any idea who she was. Not only that, but the skolars will celebrate 4/20 EXACTLY as you think they will.

They will skip skool and puff up muthafukkas.

    4/20 forever!!!!!!!!!! (cough, cough..., COUGH!!!)

I thought he was having an attack the other day as the spittle was flying while he condemned the legislature for considering a 12% sales tax limit for MO. This would fuck up his plans to rack up even more revenue for Sly, his developer friends and all the thieves around 18th street.

Isn’t’ it amazing how the liberals blame the gun for the Parkland Florida Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School mass shooting and they are not blaming the bombs in the Austin bombings.

    Where is the outrage?

    ReplyDelete
  11. My guess at this point, is, that there will be around 160 murders this year. Considering that only about 50% of murders are solved each year in Kansas City, it would lead a reasonable person, to assume, that there are several students, guilty of murder, "Marching" against gun owners and the 2nd Amendment today.

Irony and nuance are bereft on the left.

The killers who would see you disarmed in the face of the violence and chaos they create, of course, will march against you right to defend yourself.

"Mass Shootings" as I have said, should be defined in total and with a reasonable time line, according to the actual damage they do to society and communities. In a month, here in KC, we surpass the numbers at Columbine, as do cities like Chicago, in, sometimes, a day. But, that is black crime and a racially biased press, manipulates we plebes into believing, that crime is caused, not committed. THE GUN DID IT!

Columbine was horrible, but certainly not as horrible as the ongoing violence, chaos, destruction and dysfunction stemming from dysgenic mobs of gang bangers and their enablers like the Mayor, who would have you believe that numbers don't count and suppression of facts in emotional displays of ignorance are a salve to our county's wounds.

Those wounds bleed by way of outrageously disproportionate African American Criminality, not, the NRA, or, "GUNS" or, anything else.

It's categorical, but, sure, go ahead and "March for peace."

    What a joke.

You are right sir. I have a very, very healthy respect for extemporaneous, blind sided black violence, having experienced it many times.

My good friend and long time benefactor, was just killed, on the Indian Creek Trail last year. I have been shot at once during a robbery and my business shot up several times by blacks. I was beaten on two different occasions by blacks, once outside of the Elisted Men's Club in the service and here in the city in 1978. My friend R. was shot in the chest with a 357 (He lived.) at Superior Sound in the 80's. I was robbed at gunpoint working my way through college at 71st and Troost in 1976. I quit, the kid who took my place at 7/11, was killed, on my shift, the very next week. I was held up at gunpoint at Antin's House of Video in 1981 (Long story) by a black guy.

The list goes on, but, you get my point.

I am, in no way, disrespectful of black violence and have a very, very healthy respect for it.

Just for the record though, you and everyone of those cocksuckers can go fuck yourself.

Have nice day and try to be prepared for anything shitheel.

  30. SYLVESTER JAMES PERSONALITY PROFILE

    Can you say "DYSFUNCTION"?

Grew up on KC's East-side, but did not attend KCMO public schools.
His step-mother was just a few years older than himself.
Married outside his race while still in his teens. Marriage quickly ended in divorce, and he was estranged from his gay son for most of his life.
Joined the military and served as a military police officer for 4 years.
    Bachelors degree from Rockhurst.
Started law school at Syracuse, then transferred to Minnesota. Wonder why?
Became a personal injury attorney in which braggadocio, intimidation, and threats are normal operating procedure.
Married outside his race for a second time.
James has expressed a certain disdain for urban core residents who haven't been able to escape their conditions. Because his family was able to send him to a Catholic high school, he believes those left behind have themselves to blame.
After a successful legal career, he grew bored hanging out on the Plaza drinking scotch, and his narcissism led him to politics.
Was barely elected Mayor in 2011 when only 21-percent of eligible voters participated in the vote. The KC Star endorsed James, while 3 former mayors endorsed Mike Burke.
As soon as he assumed office, James greatly expanded the Mayor's Office budget, redecorated the office, and took on round-the-clock security with KCPD. His predecessor used no security and drove his own personal vehicle, like a regular person.
In 2015, James won re-election when only approximately 10-percent of eligible voters participated. Despite having failed to pay his taxes on time, making him ineligible, a friendly court refused to disqualify him.
Local engineering firm Burns and McDonnell was one, if not the largest, of campaign contributors to James. Subsequently, KCMO financed the company's HQ expansion building and granted a plethora of incentives and tax breaks for the wealthy private corporation.
Mayor James and City Manager Schulte purposely promoted a false narrative to citizens, concerning an exponential rise in their property taxes, in order to force through the $800M GO bond issue.
They used the same tactic to hoodwink taxpayers on the Earnings Tax renewal.
Mayor James pushed through a generous pay increase and contract extension for City Manager Troy Schulte.
Subsequently, James, Schulte, and Councilperson Justus entered into secret talks with Burns and McDonnell in an effort to award them a billion-dollar airport terminal contract. They wanted to give the largest public works project in KCMO history to James' campaign cash benefactor without soliciting bids for the project.
Now, when many on the Council have finally caught on to James' machinations, he lashes out at them like the fat little insecure bully that he's always been.

THIS IS WHAT YOU GET WHEN YOU SIT ON YOUR ASS AT HOME ON VOTING DAY

I wrote 10:33 and I would post under my own name but I tried that a few years back and Byron and a few in here posting thought it was great fun to attack me at my work place and follow me on every site I might be a part of trying to spread lies and make hateful comments about race and my so called pedofile attempts and investigations while turning me into several fanatical so called anti racists groups who then started calling at my work place and what not. So that is why I don't use my name anymore soon as I stopped posting under my name in here they more of less left me alone. If I was a public figure it would be a different story but I am not. This is why I wish Tony would make it where you had to register to post but could still remain anonymous but if you get out of hand he could reach out to you with a warning or just block you. Many of you that scream hate speech are the ones who are truly the guilty ones of hate speech and hate tactical actions.

The REAL Byron Funkhouser never sent a check to May Evans to celebrate the birth of her son, Henry & bought two books from her.

Everyone knows that Byron Funkhouser never made an comments using his real name & only ever made anonymous comments.

The REAL Byron Funkhouser was never attacked on this blog by anyone because you people wouldn't do that. He wasn't routinely called a child molester, a thief, a school bus chaser, a sheep shagger, & my personal favorite, a racist, because, wait for it, he didn't hate black people.

It is very evident people are fed up with their incompetent leaders and are slashing out at whoever is around. I do not fault them for being fed up with Kansas City government.
As many have said the cause of the problem with the killings and crime in Kansas City is obvious and City Government and the County Justice department do not want to address it or at the very least acknowledge it. Instead the powers to be want to coddle the culprits let alone address them.
Sly has an agenda to push and will go to whatever means necessary to get his agenda through.

  49. 10:01, aka Igor Stravinsky--
LOL, who was actually married for awhile to Gloria Vanderbilt, Anderson Cooper's wonderful mother.

Walt Bodine was Tracy's mentor. In fact, he mentored over 50 young women because unlike most leaders at the time, he knew their worth and the contributions they could make to this city.

Walt was the first newsman to sign on to the first TV newscast in KC. I think 1950. Knew Truman, reported on him as well as every important news event of the times. Eventually, Doubleday contracted with Walt to produce their one and only "city book/history and flavor of the place" book. He had only completed 7 chapters out of 21, and spent the advance money on other less-determined or skilled interns who never completed the book. Doubleday wanted the advance, $3000, back. Walt didn't have it--he was working for NCCJ doing PR for a non-profit for low pay.

That's when an anxious Walt Bodine met Tracy Thomas at a NOW meeting (where Kathryn Shields was the President!). She had just left the Wheeler administration. To keep Walt from going into debt, Tracy took on completing the book, working for free for two years. "Right Here in River City" by Tracy Thomas and Walt Bodine was published by Doubleday in 1976. During that time, Walt taught Tracy how to do PR and secured her first two clients for her ad agency.

In the 80's, Tracy personally used her contacts to secure for Walt his gig at KMBC-TV9, "Whaddya Think About That", a kind of Andy Rooney upbeat rollout to the 6pm News. Which led to his second book which he wrote by himself.

So, "Igor", as the late great Paul Harvey used to say, "so now you know the rest of the story."

  56. SLIMEBALL SYLVESTER EGGS ON IGNORANT STUDENTS

    Example:
Stay "committed to your principles" -- Sylvester James

Please note he did not tell the students:
    Stay committed to your principals.
Stay in school, and graduate from high school.
Don't have children before you get married.
After you complete your education, get a job and work hard.

Isn't Sly the father of a son who has committed theft, drunk driving, violence and a failure to appear for one of his court hearings? So, wouldn't it be wise for Sly to address mental health while he's pontificating on what is necessary and helpful to reduce destructive and possibly deadly actions. Apparently Nick Cruz needed intensive psychological intervention. Who failed that troubled teen? That list is long, it seems to have been discovered. Sad. And, bad.
