Once again, this weekend in Westport proved exceptionally violent and fearsome for patrons and onlookers.

Even via the low-res clip it's clear that this video portrays a level of brutality and chaos that not even "street privatization" could hope to control.
Fists are flying, heads hit the pavement, hotties with thigh-high boots scurry away for safety . . . The clip documents an entertainment district catastrophe whilst local media continues to deny what's really happening in Westport.
The only bright side here is that nobody pulled a gun despite so many cowardly sucker punches thrown and nasty bar talk traded freely on local streets.
Sadly, the clip has only garnered social media attention so far with tens of thousands of shares and 100k views .. . Yet KCMO journalists have failed to put the violence into context of a party district in the midst of culture war debate wherein urban planners lament "privatization" and biz owners attack council members for a betrayal of promises to support the district.
In the meantime, this clip also serves as fair warning to Westport patrons amid the upcoming warmer weather. The reality is that violence in this district can break out at any time and police aren't always on hand to break up skull crushing brutality that seems to erupt so often that it rarely makes the news.

ReplyDeleteI almost went to Westport at night this weekend, to the Tivoli, to view the sensational art film about Andy Goldsworthy. Good thing I didn't.
i love the Tivoli, one of America's great art houses. But if one cannot walk to your car before or after seeing a movie--is it perhaps time for them to relocate??
I'm leaving my thigh high suede books in my closet. In Joco. But I do appreciate the black gals for speaking up on the video--that was an appropriate strategy.
When feral yutes get into a fight, they are acting with what psychologists call their "animal brain"--or "lizard brain" (black or white). That's where the fight or flight response resides in the brain. Reason goes out the window.
So when the gals started shouting, safely, from across the street, that auditory alert helps jolt fighting animals back to reality.
I'll be going to the Tivoli in the afternoons from now on--especially this summer. I'm not "dying to see any movie."
