TKC BREAKING AND EXCLUSIVE NEWS!!! KANSAS CITY STREETCAR ACTIVIST DAVID JOHNSON TARGETS WESTPORT BUSINESS FOR OPPOSITION AGAINST CONTROVERSIAL TOY TRAIN EXPANSION ELECTION!!!

ON Twitter he describes himself this way: "At-Large TDD Director for @kcstreetcar & safe streets advocate. I love cities and travel." But David Johnson is one of the most fanatical proponents for the Kansas City streetcar this town has ever seen.

More interestingly . . .

IN HIS LATEST TWITTER BLAST DAVID JOHNSON SEEMINGLY ANNOUNCES A PERSONAL BOYCOTT OF WESTPORT BAR BIZ BECAUSE OF STREETCAR OPPOSITION!!!

Take a look for those of you he hasn't already blocked . . .

He then shares a publicly available campaign finance document showing that places like Johnny Kaw's, Kelly's and Char Bar have donated to Smart KC.

Other notable contributions include Tom McDonnell kicked in $3K & Jim Nutter Jr $5K.

It gets worse, in response to his social media blast some of the private and closed local groups have been advocating even stronger reactions against Westport biz because of Streetcar opposition.

Of course, Mr. Johnson is only responsible for his own comments but his social media diatribes seem hostile to Westport biz which have good reason to oppose streetcar expansion.

The fact that it's a rigged vote and is taking place despite recent election demands for CITYWIDE participation might be reason enough for any local biz who really supports direct Democracy to take a stand against this effort.

Nevertheless . . .

What we're left with today is social media slap fighting over an issue where local elected officials have shown very little leadership and seem scared of a small group of activists who support toy train expansion despite the will of voters to directly participate in future decisions on the fate of the line that has yet to secure federal funding for expansion.

Developing . . .

  1. It worked with Grinders. There was a threat of a boycott and that scared STRETCH away from any opposition of the streetcar.

    1. Kind of like a "my way or the highway" attitude which is pretty harsh for a public transit advocate.

    2. That's "Team Sly" for you. When you oppose them, they go straight for the throat. It makes sense from their point of few. What sucks is that they have this image like they're the "good guys" when they're actually some of the most ruthless people in Kansas City.

  2. What sucks is that you won't hear any of this from the newspaper because they think that these 20 or 30 spammers in KC are their future audience, and so they sell out voters who never really had a say in the streetcar.

    1. Kind of agree here. I'm not totally against the expansion but the way the vote is being conducted is scary. Don't they realize that if they do the streetcar this way, that opens up a really horrible can of worms when it comes to eminent domain and government taking control of property without just cause.

  3. Better title:

    KC streetcar hates westport.

That's really what's going on here.

  4. Toot toot. Trolley Boy's a hoot. He seems concerned the toot toot won't pass in spite of the rigged election. Do you suppose people have actually looked at Main Street and realized how impractical this fixed-rail fair weather only transit will be? Maybe even people have looked at their property tax bills and realized they'll be even higher with the toot toot.

The toot toot offers the worst of many possible worlds.

Assuming rates will be similar to current downtown rates bars pay, looks like the McCoy's building which covers McCoy's, the new sailor Jack's, riot room, and bunker ....those businesses would pay $2000 more in property taxes per year between all of them.

That's a lot of money. I can see why they would be opposed.

Hey Johnson, go play with your johnson and STFU!

    ReplyDelete
  7. Westport doesn't want more property taxes. Can you blame them?

  8. Saw some of this discussion on FB. It really is a shame that people who claim to "support" the streetcar are willing to tear down any business that gets win their way. It really shows their immaturity and willingness for destruction.

Do you think these people will really look out for what will happen to business during construction?

    Not going to happen.

They just want their way and will hurt anyone else who gets in their path.

  11. That a clown like this can stampede the city government into such a ridiculous waste of money for a short-term fad and then press on for a few hundred million more shows what a hokey cow town KCMO really is.
Johnson and his ilk will bail whenever he finds some nifty new scam and more suckers to fund them and leave residents picking up the pieces and paying for his adventures for decades.
    Amazing!

    1. Well said. And unless Westport has recently opened a Butt Pirates, Fudgepackers and Beyond, I can’t imagine his boycott of businesses there will be too consequential.

Does he even live in killa shitty?

And really, who cares what he thinks, he’s a nobody that thinks he’s somebody, worst kind really, they won’t ever shut up because they’re more important than everybody else.

    1. My thoughts exactly. Another nobody who fancies himself as a real mover and shaker even though the vast majority of the city has never heard of him. KCMO is a house of cards and it’s going to collapse one day.

  13. I saw this in one of their threads:

"When I go to Ca Va even after the streetcar extension is built just to spite them. Not another dollar of mine going to the streetcar haters. Crazy they don't want to reap benefits proven with starter line."

It's just the height of delusion. Streetcar supporters think they know every business better than proprietors and they just won't believe that we all know the numbers for the streetcar are fake and they don't translate into real revenue.

But rather than have an open debate, they just want to shut down their opponents.

This is worse than #Metoo or black lives matter bullshit because at least those people, while I disagree with a lot of them, want to change society. These people are willing to destroy a good part of Kansas City just so they can have a fun weekend ride.

All of this is why people move to Leawood and only visit a few weekends out of the year.

  14. David will rarely debate his ideas in public. He shuts out any challenge. Instead he just launches hateful social media posts because he can't defend the policies and the harm he is doing to kc elections.

    ReplyDelete
  15. He looks like a fucking pussy. I am sure he won't be boycotting any gay bars where he goes to suck cock.

    ReplyDelete
  16. He not only looks like a queer, he is a known faggot.

    ReplyDelete
  17. ^^^ When you post that ad hominem attack, you kind of just give him more credibility. Debate David Johnson on the issues and you'll win. But you don't help anybody but yourself when you do that.

Then I think, that comment is probably a false flag because it's where the streetcar proponents have been able to smear Smart KC because of their spiteful rhetoric.

    ReplyDelete
  18. David Johnson is absolutely correct in his criticism.

Westport does have undue influence in Kansas City.

They should not be able to take away our streets and now they're trying to take away our streetcar against the will of voters!

    ReplyDelete
  19. ^^^ And now we have heard from City Hall on the subject too.

City hall has always been out to destroy Westport. Just like trolley boy.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Streetcar supporters are the last real gangsters left in Kansas City.

    I admire their tactics.

    ReplyDelete
  21. The entire city voted against streetcar expansion. Perhaps he should boycott it.

  25. I want the damned Streetcar named "The MLK Wagon" !!

  26. Who cares what David Johnson thinks about anything? I would say 99.9% of the population has never even heard of him. I certainly don't base my enertainment choices based on his twitter feed and I doubt if many other people do either. If the TDD director is a paid position then he
benefits financially from the streetcar so his comments are tainted. Westport is thriving and won't be the least bit affected by his absence.

  28. The "starter line" (it was not called that when they were trying to sell it) has been only a propaganda success. Won't go under adverse weather conditions, and they have to give rides away for free to make their numbers halfway believable. It's obvious that they don't think the streetcar would attract riders if they charged bus rates to ride it. Its sole purpose is, and always has been, to siphon tax money to a few already wealthy interests. In that, it has been a success.

    ReplyDelete
  29. ^^^ 100% correct.

  35. This guy is a douche. Maybe he should run for JAXCO Executive to replace Frank. Then we could get rid of cars in the metro area and all ride for free on the backs of taxpayers that live within two blocks of the county wide toy train. Oh boy oh boy oh boy.

    ReplyDelete
  36. If the streetcar people really cared about Westport, they would have it running through Penn Valley Park and down Broadway to the heart of Westport and to the Plaza, instead of Main Street. After all, it's just an entertainment trolley for white people. Leave the more dependable Max bus on Main.

  37. Tony Botello is right. David Johnson is an openly gay homo and should be curb stomped. Westport is the appropriate location to take this faggot down.
