  2. Its tragic that a family lost all of their stuff. But, how did they own their home outright and not have money for insurance renewals? Because, if they were paying a mortgage, the mortgagor would pay the insurance bill as part of escrow, something that would occur 1 to 2 weeks before renewal. House insurance is not like car insurance where people typically scam car insurance to get proof then immediately cancel it. House insurance is actively maintained to protect the mortgagor.

  3. Not to mention that the go fund me page was set up by someone apparently unrelated to the family other than being based in Independence. Watch out for go fund me, there is zero guarantee that it actually goes to the people you think it is going to. Maybe the people that set it up will legitimately give some of the cash to the family; but probably not all. Problem is, most people are scammers, especially those who do digital begging.
