Kansas School Shutdown Coming Soon???

Another lesson in more accounting mistakes and the underlying debate over de facto income distribution among broke-ass Red State politicos. Take a look:

  1. Easiest way? One superintendent per school district, one assistant superintendent per district. Set minimum district population sizes based on those in the Eastern part of the State. Merge the central and Western districts as necessary to meet the minimum population requirements, one per County would probably work. There is no reason at all why districts need 6 - 10 assistant superintendents. Likewise, there is no reason why these rural Western districts with a population of 20,000 should have there own super, asst. super asst-asst super, etc. Combine these until they get to 80,000 population (a number I pulled out of the air). No reason to be paying double or triple the administrative costs when there is less administration to be done.

I would also make cuts across the board on general secretaries, etc. Maybe 10% this year, another 10% next year. The school system where I live has three phone lines per school, and an attendant to answer each one of those lines; I kid not. Probably a bunch of calls coming in right? Nope, maybe one per hour. The number of students has remained static over the last 20 years (actually a hair smaller), area population has remained the same. During that time, the school administration has TRIPLED in size to match the tax-base increases. Yet the teachers are still out shilling for additional "classroom donations" every year.

  8. Everyone loves a tax cut, until they realize that means no revenue.

When the aquifer dries up, Kansas will have to be abandoned. Why wait, move now.
