Kansas City Star Scribe Thinks Embattled American Jazz Museum Needs More Money

Let's not forget that the 18th & Vine District has enjoyed more than $100-MILLION worth of public funding but still has yet to turn a profit. Meanwhile, here's the latest newspaper screed lamenting the fact that nobody likes jazz.

Has Kansas City given the American Jazz Museum a fair shot at success?

We've seen this play out before: A Kansas City institution clinging to life is rescued, revamped and saved by private and public dollars. That's our city's usual game plan. But this time, it feels like Kansas City has collectively given the acclaimed American Jazz Museum the stiff arm.

  1. A fair shot at success? I would say $100 million was pretty fair. It would have turned out better if white people had been in charge of it, of course. Close it down.

  3. I agree, but how much has been pissed away on the Power & Light District to provide 35-40 year old ex-KU Frat Boys and Sorority Sluts a Drunk Tank to watch TV in?

    SHUT BOTH OF THEM DOWN!

  4. Jazz is, at best, a tiny niche genre. A museum devoted to jazz? Who would go? That's right, a tiny niche audience. There is no market for this.

  5. ^^^^ Correct jazz is an acquired taste. You grow into a jazz fan after listening to other forms of music growing up. A city that supports a station like the 101 The Fox for 30 years has a immature audience that's musical taste do not advance over time. In fact you must question the intelligence of most music listeners in KC.

For those that DO NOT know,,,,

back in the early mid 1990's when KCMO City Hall and former city leaders of KCMO and Jackson County, Missouri

They were interviewed on TV News stations back in the early to mid 1990's mind you,,,,,

this is about what they said back then over the revitalization of the JAZZ DISTRICT :

WE think it would be good for the area and the city, and WE believe, that "people from all over the World" will come here to visit the JAZZ District and bring their kids for Vacations and spend 2 weeks touring the JAZZ Muesum

Emmanuel Clever and Carol Coe said and others stated they believe people from all over the WORLD, from JAPAN, AUSTRALIA , PARIS , LONDON and the Orient will wanna come and make Kansas City JAZZ District their vacation destination !

I Remember seeing it on TV at both the 6pm news as well as the 10pm time slot , back when WENDALL Anchutz ands Ann Peterson were the news

Channel 9 Michael Mahoney also ran that piece as well.

The KC Star even ran that story and pumped & hyped it up as well with pretty artist photo drawings in the paper

everybody else laughed at it and the entire scheme of it !!

That's when EMMANUEL CLEVER was Mayor of KC - Mr Illusionary Car Wash king himself , ya' he borrowed hundreds of thousands dollars for a supposed car wash, and just kind of conveniently forgot to PAY IT BACK,,,,,,, and forgot to PAY IT BACK ,,,,,

Typical KCMO Swindlers & Grifters and Con Artists for ya, straight out of KCMO City Hall and it still continues to this day with SLY JAMES at the helm and others,,,,

  10. I need a fair shot. Give me only a million and watch how well I do with it. Seriously, fuck these grifters. Don't give them another penny, let it love or die on its own accord. It might do better of some of the worst neighborhoods in KC weren't just a block south.

  12. Might as well invest millions in alchemy. After all turning lead into gold would be much more likely and definitely more profitable.
