KANSAS CITY STAR DEAD-TREE DISGRACE!!! PROFESSOR KRASKE 'PUTS HIS MONEY' ON MINISTERS AND MLK NAME CHANGE FOR THE PASEO FROM COMFORT OF JOCO AS HE SHAMELESSLY INCITES KANSAS CITY LATINO VS. BLACK COMMUNITY RIVALRY!!!
Recently, a cynical and hackneyed column published by Kansas City Star revealed that it basically considers the current urban core cultural debate nothing more than a spectator sport.
Here's the column that will get more reaction on TKC than in any newspaper:
Steve Kraske: Parks board chief doesn’t want to rename The Paseo for MLK. Did he pick the wrong battle?
Prof. Kraske starts his column with a nasty road-kill analogy that would never fly against any other elected or appointed official.
A few items worth noting . . .
- The not so subtle screed is filled with contempt for the Parks Board President (not "Chief" as the headline of Prof. Kraske's condescending polemic suggests). The columnist needlessly calls out Jean-Paul Chaurand's Westside roots and by doing so subtly plays up the racial/ethnic rivalry in one of the most irresponsible bits of written work since that hot mess over crying at Applebee's.
Fact is: Most politically active Latinos are likely to support the MLK efforts . . . The far larger majority don't really care one way or another like most of the local plebs who are much more concerned about the rent than one last political achievement for the local remnants of the tragically forgotten Civil Rights Era.
- Credit where it's due . . . The column hints that KCMO Prez Obama Blvd near Ward Parkway is next if/when this MLK name change is complete.
- And this throwaway line might be the most haughty bit of prose I've read from a local writer so far in 2018 . . . Kraske writes: "African Americans are still waiting, waiting for so much . . ." The fact is they don't even let that kind of sloppy text slip through in those awful Madea movies. The impassioned plea over street nomenclature is pretty much the definition of the soft bigotry of low expectations and reminds us that, for many, the struggle for social justice is nothing more than bad theater.
Nevertheless . . .
REMEMBER PROFESSOR KRASKE FAILED TO RENAME J.C. NICHOLS FOUNTAIN LAST YEAR AMID HIS BITTER KEYBOARD BATTLE WITH THE ALT-RIGHT!!!
This time around he's boldly letting other people do his work for him from the comfort of the suburbs and regarding streets miles away from his own middle-class enclave.
