TKC EXCLUSIVE BREAKING NEWS!!! TYPICAL KANSAS CITY WINTER 2018 KILLED TOY TRAIN RIDERSHIP!!! STREETCAR SUFFERED 25% FEBRUARY PLUNGE IN PASSENGERS!!!
Kansas City is looking forward to Springtime but right now the hope for new life and opportunity is overshadowed by the cold, hard numbers revealed over winter months.
To wit . . .
NORMAL FEBRUARY WEATHER ABSOLUTELY DECIMATED RIDERSHIP FOR KANSAS CITY'S TOY TRAIN STREETCAR!!!
Today our blog community highlights numbers from the streetcar that are otherwise buried in dingy old PDF dox and then politely ignored by transit cheerleaders amid the push to expand the line to the Plaza with a secretive and rigged ballot.
Let's check the data . . .
Kansas City Streetcar Ridership In February 2017: 125,935
Now, here's the apples to apples comparison with this year's numbers for February which report 94,368 riders
And so . . .
THE EPIC 25% DECLINE REPRESENTS 31,567 FEWER PASSENGERS AND ONE OF THE BIGGEST DROPS IN RIDERSHIP THE STREETCAR HAS ENDURED!!!
Mind you, most locals question if the numbers aren't over-inflated even at these levels given fantastical claims that often emanate from City Hall like the VisitKC 25-million-tourist-per-year fabrication.
To be fair, streetcar advocates point out that ice storms threw the streetcar off-track and were responsible for the decline . . .
Essentially that argument is correct but overlooks longstanding complaints about fragility of the streetcar system . . . Translation: Skeptics argue that Kansas City purchased overpriced Spanish junk incapable of navigating real life Midwestern conditions in a timely fashion unlike the far more reliable bus system.
In the final analysis . . .
Reports about streetcar breakdowns and declining ridership are far more newsworthy than celebratory press release coverage of passenger milestones constantly touted by MSM.
As a small, carefully selected group of Kansas City voters are asked to approve a questionable streetcar extension to the Plaza . . . The reality of constant toy train streetcar breakdowns and declining numbers merits consideration as part of an informed conversation during the current election.
You decide . . .
I saw the number but absolutely no comparison with last year. It's really a shame that they keep most of this data secret and want to public to focus on the 3 million number that almost sounds at phony as the tourist fake news. Sad.
ReplyDeleteThe streetcar graphic is incorrect.
DeleteThe streetcar was shut down for almost three days during this ice storm while the buses were up and running.
Think about that, we're going to be investing possibly a half a billion dollars into a system that doesn't work in the cold?
What's even more frustrating is that nobody even talks about it like a problem and anybody who brings it up as something people should be concerned about is portrayed as nothing more than a hater.
Btw, TKC. Nice job on this, the streetcar people absolutely hate your blog but I see how it influences their public relations.
I'm support the streetcar, I just wish they would stop cheerleading and start getting real.
It's not the biggest scam running in Kansas City, and that's the scary part
DeleteYou know, if KC gets 25 million tourists every year but only 3 million ride the streetcar over two years then it's not a very big draw. Maybe we should talk about that?!
ReplyDeleteKansas City streetcar doesn't work in the winter.
ReplyDeleteSo how come when you link to "Skeptics argue" it's a link to your own blog instead of something....you know....credible.
ReplyDeleteWhat would ridership be if the city were to charge for it? The only reason it has any remotely positive numbers is because the city is giving it away.
ReplyDeleteThe numbers have always been a scam, they weren’t that high last year and they’re not that high this year, just more sLIE lies to scam more money
ReplyDeleteGlobal warming will take care of the problem. We won't have snow or ice problems, and everything will be rainbows and unicorns.
ReplyDeleteFUCK SLIE!
ReplyDeleteVOTE NO ON THE EARNINGS TAX EXTENSION APRIL 1.
THIS CITY NEEDS TO GO ON A DIET!
THIS MONEY NEVER GETS TO NEIGHBORHOODS FOR STREET & SEWER REPAIRS.
The streetcar is a piece of shit that’s breaks all the time.
ReplyDelete^^^^ damn right vote no!
ReplyDeleteNope. Vote yes. I will
ReplyDeleteYes, I believe you will vote yes. But first you will suck some dick because you like to suck a lot of dick.
DeleteBased on what that chart says I came to the conclusion that of the 94K that they said rode it 47K of them are weekend warriors from the surrounding counties on both side of the state line of Kansas City that are just joyriding on the Kansas City's taxpayers dime.
ReplyDeleteSo it appears that whatever numbers they throw at you almost half of them are for non residents taking advantage of a free ride.
^^^^You retard, you can’t even count to ten! You’re gonna look at the numbers? Ha ha ha ha ha
DeleteThose streetcars are out of service more than they are in service. If they want to have a successful operation, they had better starting ordering some reliable equipment.
ReplyDeleteAutonomous self driving electric taxis will dominate urban travel in less than 10 years.
ReplyDeleteIt would be hard to come up with something that makes KC look like the bush league cow town that it is than having reports every day on the local television news about how and what THE streetcar is doing.
ReplyDeleteReally?
How about an update on the Number Six bus?
It makes Worlds of Fun look like a serious metropolis.
When is Mike Murphy's downtown cattle drive coming back?
Avocado toast and cow manure!
Now you're talking!
Top 5 Things we can Count on:
ReplyDelete1. Higher KC Taxes. You can count on cities surrounding KC to vote for raising the KC earnings tax to 5%. While non-binding... this is the only way to help KC survive... so deep in Pension and Infrastructure debt.
2. Toy Train Tracks all the Way around I-435. Just like now- it doesn’t stop anywhere important.
3. Symbolism over substance. That’s why he wears a bow tie.
4. More protests against (insert what you are mad about here) at the JC Nichols fountain. Same faces and same people will take pics and use facial recognition software against protesters.
5. More column from Hoopz on race based stuff. A great cure for insomnia. Her peers for thinking and writing are now attending 6th grade.

ReplyDeleteGuy came to my Northland door Sunday and handed me a piece of cardboard with mayor blowhard's pic, asking for yes vote on prop 1. After I stopped laughing, he asked me what was funny and said he appreciated "feedback". About five minutes later he left. Won't be back I suspect.

I can fix the street car's winter woes for a small amount of money. Replace the smooth steel wheels with mountain climber cog-style. Install a large bull-bar brush guard on the front. Let everyone "the street car now runs all the time"! Cars in the way? BOOM, gone, I'm sure the thing has enough horses to push on through. Get's tired or waiting at a stoplight? BOOM, gone, cars can move or get the help they need. Those cog driven wheels don't slip. Ice on the tracks? No big deal. Effective City bus in the way? Slice right through. People won't scoot? Eh, that's what street sweepers are for after the fact amiright?
ReplyDeleteVery nice, see you guys at the KC Streetcar expansion groundbreaking. In the meantime, keep those titty pics coming....
