KC NoVA Media Advisory: Police, community to canvas NE neighborhoods Saturday
Partners in the Kansas City No Violence Alliance (KC NoVA), including law enforcement, prosecutors and community leaders, will be canvassing residences and businesses in Northeast Kansas City on Saturday, beginning about 10 a.m. and ending about 2 p.m. The partners will spread information about KC NoVA's new efforts to reduce crime in that area. Last Saturday, dozens of Northeast community members were briefed by police on the new effort in their neighborhood.

MEANWHILE, THE RATE OF KANSAS CITY HOMICIDES IN 2018 OUTPACES LAST YEAR'S HISTORIC MURDER SPIKE!!!
And so the question goes out to our blog community . . . As Northeast copes with an ongoing spike in violence, shootings and homicides . . . Will this effort prove effective???

Doing something is better than doing nothing. This kind of effort might seem square to some but it's important to let residents and business owners like myself know that police and elected leaders are there to help them. It might not be the answer but it's the first step in creating safe neighborhoods.

ReplyDeleteNoVa has been around for YEARS and was taking public credit for the year of a small decrease in homicides years ago.
ReplyDeleteLast year, with 150 murders in KCMO, they were strangely quiet.
What is proposed here is exactly what they were going to do from the beginning, so it seems fair to conclude that either they didn't do much, or whatever they did didn't have any impact on violence and murders.
And what about the rest of the menagerie of "anti-crime" groups?
Will ad Hoc, Mothers in Charge, Aim4Peace, and the assorted grifters on the PD payroll share in this empty moment in the local media sun?
Places everyone! Another round of the same tired play is about to start.
And the foundational issues of behavior, respect for others, personal responsibility, and getting an education and a job will be ignored as usual.

ReplyDeleteI hope for the best but systemic problems rooted in cultural abnormalities and demographics will not disappear with canvassing. We need a Marshall Plan for housing in Northeast Kansas city and not a street car extension or a new airport.

Delete9:45 is saying what sensible minds are thinking. I'll add my 2 cents here. Get more popos hired, with more of them doing frequent bike/car/foot patrols to keep watch in the FUBAR zones. Desk jockeys gotta jump in for the duration, even if overtime is incurred. Cancel, or put on hold that silly moneysucking streetcar altogether, or at least, nix that extension until KILLA CITY gets a handle on cutting down the murder mayhem. Executing warrant sweeps between friendly "walk & talk & door knocks" should get the baddies rounded up, or moved along. Get serious, go Rudy on those crimmies. Hit 'em real hard on ALL levels of crime. No real easy plea bargains, on repeaters especially. That's how New York got serious crime knocked WAY down.

ReplyDeleteAll this is is a payout to political friends, none of these programs has done anything but suck money out of the general fund. The people running these programs show up and talk at events a couple times a year and can’t be found for eleven months of the year.
