Right now there is news of an EPIC power shift underway in Kansas City politics that contradicts MSM reporting on the rise of female candidates and more progressive politics in 2018.

Now, we know there are are a lot of Jackson County races to cover and far more people have challengers than most Courthouse denizens expected. But this contest is probably the most important . . .
Former Missouri State Rep. John Burnett just filed against Crystal Williams a few moments ago.
Now, we all know the political reputation of Crystal Williams quite well . . . She touts women's rights and props up a slew of her cronies at nearly every occasion. She has consistently meddled in other races in the Missouri State Senate and most of her campaign promises at the outset of her career have been completely unfulfilled.
For those who don't know her new challenger. Here's just a quick official background.
John Burnett has been practicing in the courts of the Kansas City area since 1978. His law practice has included three appearances in the Supreme Court of Missouri.
Mr. Burnett has practiced criminal and traffic law in this area for many years . . . He has been invited since 2014 to join the "Top 100 DWI Defense Lawyers in Missouri" association. He has long been a member of the Missouri Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers and the Missouri Association of Trial Attorneys.
Mr. Burnett is a United State Army veteran of the Vietnam War. He served in Vietnam during 1967 and 1968 and is a veteran of the Tet Offensive. He is a Life Member of the Vietnam Veterans of America.
More to the point. Mr. Burnett is a TOUGH CAMPAIGNER, he doesn't pull punches and he has always been active in local Jackson County politics.
Insiders see this challenge against Crystal Williams as a rejection of her antagonizing political style from the highest levels of the Missouri Democratic Party. While Mr. Burnett maintain connections with traditional party leaders, this match-up against Crystal Williams appears to be an indication that the party knows it can't win with Hillary-Clinton-style progressive politics in an increasingly Conservative state or at least a part of town that has tired of the antics of Crystal Williams and her coven of angry lady politicos and activists.

He would have been a great candidate twenty years ago.
Can you not see what an old man is doing to the Office of President?
We need to have an age limit on public office. It's getting ridiculous with all of these 70 year old's. Get a hobby. Write a book. Leave public office to someone young & vital.

ReplyDeleteCrystal has her work cut out for her and that is obvious. But there are a lot of liberals in Kansas City and Crystal is one of the few candidates who is avowedly a progressive. Don't forget that Kansas City voted for Hillary over Trump by a large margin. This is not a Missouri race, it's Kansas City and there has always been a lot of liberal who put a candidate like Crystal into office.

I'm not saying this as her enemy. Would be a shame for her to sacrifice the equity in her home or throw good money after bad in order to keep up the illusion that she has a career in politics. She just doesn't have the temperament for it.
Can we just grease them both up and have them slug it out on Independence Ave. like the old days?

Best of luck to her, I'd like to hear more about how either one of these two is going to fix the jail.
The jail has solid leadership in place now. A new jail is likely. An ongoing, improved partnership between the County Exec and the Legislature will provide the needed infrastructure improvements to get it to a new building.

ReplyDeleteIt is an At Large Seat, so KC votes don't do it alone. Crystal doesn't know where eastern Jack is. This could come down to who supports the term limits that were in the paper - that would do well in the suburbs.
