TKC BREAKING AND EXCLUSIVE NEWS!!! COUNCIL BUILDING CASE AGAINST EPIC $17.5-MILLION FUNDING FOR KANSAS CITY 'THREE LIGHT' LUXURY LIVING SPACE!!!

Behind the scenes Council ladies Canady & Shields successfully stalled a horrific taxpayer giveaway for big money living space beyond the reach of most residents.

The City Attorney agreed with the KICK-ASS TKC BLOG COMMUNITY and noted that KCMO was not "obligated" to give Cordish more cash as City Manager Troy Schulte had insisted. But that's only part of the story . . .

CHECK THE HIGHLIGHTS OF GROWING COUNCIL CONCERN AGAINST FUNDING THREE-LIGHT!!!

A few items the City Manager's office will soon be mandated to check according to a backdated resolution just released this week . . .

- Whether the Missouri Constitution prohibited the City from lawfully entering into the Master Development Agreement and subsequent amendments . . . In the future, this could be useful in getting KCMO out of a lot of bad deals concocted during Mayor Sly's rule.

- Legal/policy issues raised in providing additional incentives to an entity with pending discrimination in public accommodation lawsuits.

- Prevention of price gouging: Sufficiency of controls on pricing of parking and levels of maintenance required, in light of transferring the management of the public parking to KC Live, to ensure that price increases are subject to limitation and the parking structures remain viable.

But best of all . . .

CHECK CITY HALL QUESTIONING MORE CASH FOR LUXURY LIVING SPACE AMID THE BROKE-ASS KANSAS CITY HOUSING CRISIS!!!

Translation . . . The rent is to high for most local po'folk . . .

"Examine . . . Basis for a staff recommendation that the City expend $17.5 million, plus additional subsidies, when the MARC report on affordable housing quantifies a 20,000 unit shortage for 60% and below median income housing while One Light, Two Light and Three Light lack any affordable housing for persons making less than 115% median income."

In the final analysis, Cordish can bypass this entire hot mess and pay for their own parking as some denizens of the Council notice the general fund fading quickly while continued good times and downtown real estate irrational exuberance are not assured.

      Give it a rest.

This is about Democratic controlled KC greed.

  2. Just wondering if Cordish will stick around when Kansas City eventually goes bankrupt.

  3. You can build it but will they come. They have not after expanding Bartle Hall and building more hotels before. Sly wins today, KC loses tomorrow.

  5. These master development agreements started as far back with Mayor Cleaver and Mayor Barnes!!!! not SLY. The common denominator has always been the city's so called development arm- the Economic Development Corporation which sets these deals up with orders from City Hall and distances these corrupt scheme projects from the accountability mechanism required by the City. CDC gives free money to mostly no-bid developers, inserts friends of politicians and former politicians into these contracts as no-bid sub contracts, then provides little to no monitoring, This is the key mechanism of the City's corruption operation. Every mayor since Cleaver and Barnes has been involved with this scheme.

  7. The harm caused by tax abatement giveaways can't be hidden anymore.
Lavish real estate subsidies will be the #1 election issue in KC Mayor and Council races.

  8. 9:11 has accurately described the scheme.

I've said many times, Kathryn Shields is the smartest member of the City Council...and should be the next mayor.

She works behind the scenes, as in this time with Cannady to QUESTION assumptions and re-examine agreements that were made too hastily, eg with Cordish.

Why in hell should the City be "obligated" to kee their end of the agreement, eg Three Lights, when Cordish does not pay its current rent for the P&L district? That should negate the agreement. Cordish broke THEIR promise. Taxpayers are subsidizing Cordish's rent to the tune of about $15 million PER YEAR, which has also led to the diminution of Westport as a viable --or safe--entertainment district.

Shields for Mayor. Might be the only hope to stop the madness.

  9. This is how Cleaver became a millionaire. Mayor Barnes benefited financially as well. Funkhouser did not engage with developers that is why the business elite had to get him out a get another "developer Friendly" Mayor elected so as to continue the scheme. Troy kept the corruption going under Funkhouser though, because he has friends and family members such as Dale Schulte who are developers who have benefited and continue to benefit from development corruption schemes run through City Hall. Troy Nash and others have cashed in through hidden shell corporations designed to hide the politico's names.

  11. Yes, Kathryn Shields For Mayor!!

  12. Cordish took complete advantage of the City and maxed out the capacity of general obligation bonds contributing to the city's massive debt load and poor bond rating. Make them pay for the garage.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Who are the idiot city hall staffers that approved that cursory language about affordable housing in the Cordish/City agreement. Pull the string and fire that person.

    ReplyDelete
  14. Troy Schulte "kept the corruption going"? No! Say it isn't so!!! He's just a big Teddy Bear.

    ReplyDelete
  15. All these comments that include Troy Schulte... Why does a non-elected "staff" person, that is subservient to the elected City Council have such a high-profile?

    ReplyDelete
  16. If you think Funkhouser's Wife caused problems at City Hall, wait till you see the chaos Phil Cardarella causes if Katherine Shields is ever elected Mayor!

  17. After the debacles that are the airport RFP and the convention hotel, please show the public that as the council YOU are in CONTROL and refuse fund the Power and Light parking garage. You don't have to approve and pay for this! Lets see some thoughtful leadership instead of embarrassing group think and dysfunction. KC is not an ATM!

  18. Well 11:39 it's because he has the authority to spend millions of dollars without city council permission.

Tracy and 9:11 have it correct. The "Light" developments are for the top 1% of millenials. They need parking for their BMW's and Acura's". If you want to stop development downtown then build some good old section eight apartments and you will have The Wayne Miner Housing complex again where there is no safe place to hide. Urine soaked stairs and elevators etc. Then add that zip code to Murder central.

Cleaver, Barnes, James are all culpable in this mess. Democrat policies at their worst. You voted for them, not me.

  19. Anyone who pays for "luxury" living in downtown KCMO has way more money than they have taste or common sense.
And if they're that easily conned, they likely won't have much money for long.
What a farcical taxpayer-funded fantasyland downtown has become.
And the latest studies show that millenials are now looking for individual houses in the suburbs with safe neighborhoods and good schools.
The fad is pretty much over and only the debt's left.
Nothing like populating your downtown "neighborhood" with renters who can bail out when rents increase or a new fad hits town.

  20. ^^^Your opinion, and it doesn't count. You sound jealous. You mad bro?

    ReplyDelete
  21. Most of these developers who own Kansas City Council Members don't even live in Kansas City. Just look at the Developer Friendly Council members running for Mayor who have already sold their souls to developer donors and have pledged to keep the development corruption scheme going almost all of them have done so except Lucas. Freedom is so plugged into the corruption scheme that they are trying to take out Lucas with another "do nothing" Curls.

  23. 12:13: I doubt that 12:10 is jealous. Most of us believe people have a right to live anywhere they can afford. $9 million condo at the old KCPL building? No problem. $3000 per month apartment downtown? Have at it. What we object to is subsidizing the lifestyles of the wealthy and the climbers. We pay our own way. Why shouldn't you?

  24. ^^first, you talk too much. Second, nobody really cares. Third, what are you going to do about any of it? Please tell me posting on a blog is not it.

CORPORATIONS,ARE CUTTING HIGH PAYING JOB'S AS I SPEAK THEY CAN'T AFFORD TO PAY EIGHTY-FIVE THOUSAND A YEAR AND STAY IN BUSINESS. I'M SURE A FEW BUSINESS OWNERS AND GREAT SALES AND MARKETING PEOPLE CAN AFFORD THE APARTMENTS. BUT WILL THEY LIKE TO LIVE DOWNTOWN. OH YES LAWYERS WILL LIVE THERE UNTIL THERE FIRM LAYS,THEM OFF

  28. @12:13pm
Everybody is jealous of those one-percenters who live in urban, dense, diverse downtown KCMO!
    Casual strolls past empty storefronts.
Yelling by puking sophisticates trying to find their home from the P&L District.
Basketball tournaments and tractor pulls at the Sprint Center.
    An actual grocery store.
And, of course, THE streetcar, which somehow gets coverage on local television almost every day.
If you can make it there, you'll make it anywhere!
    Mooooooo!!

    ReplyDelete
  29. ^^^^I doubt they're one percenters. Most are social climbers who feel entitled to subsidies from the folks who pay taxes.

In short, these leeches are decidedly NOCD!

    ReplyDelete
  30. They are not the one percent of there are four people plus Living in one apartment to pay the rent. Like in LOS ANGELES THE ACTORS WHO WANT TO BE DISCOVERED. OR THE LADY'S LOOKING FOR A SUGAR DADDY. THE WANTA, BEES,
