TKC BREAKING AND EXCLUSIVE NEWS!!! KANSAS CITY NEW AIRPORT INTERVIEWS FOR 'OWNER'S REPRESENTATIVE' OVERSIGHT: IS THIS RIGGED, TOO?!?!

Right now a selection committee is moving forward on the new airport and looking at bids for an "owner's representative" to watch over Edgemoor's and their inevitable construction delays.

For better but mostly worse, Council dude Jermaine is the leading elected official in charge of the decision along with top ranking denizens of City Hall bureaucracy.

However, here's where it gets (somewhat) interesting . . .

KICK-ASS TKC INSIDERS REVEAL THE CITY MANAGER'S OFFICE ALREADY GETTING COZY WITH STREETCAR CHEERLEADERS HNTB FOR THIS GIG AND CLAIMING THEY'RE "PROBABLY" THE BEST CHOICE BEFORE THE INTERVIEWS ARE COMPLETE!!!

Accordingly . . .

THE #BETTERKCI CONSTRUCTION PROCESS GETS MORE SKETCHY AS VOTERS ARE FURTHER REMOVED FROM THE DECISION-MAKING PROCESS!!!

Check the agenda and maybe question local politicos about their decision-making and how the inside track is kind of a local punchline:

  1. Jermaine is fronting for the likes of a Freedom Inc based consultant firm. Will it be Gayle Holliday, Karen Curls, Hazley Inc, Troy Nash, Inc. ????
Just get the Freedom membership roster and you will find the sham of the "oversight" group members poised to cash in on this personal financial gain opportunity. LOL

  4. Actually, HTNB is highly qualified to do this job and there's nothing wrong with saying as much. You can scrutinize every decision but what's most important is that we keep moving ahead with forward progress and don't let bickering stop Kansas City's momentum.

  6. New airport < new casino.

  7. You will no doubt find the Freedom crowd in the ranks of no bid sub contractors under the HNTB umbrella. That is how the political corruption machinery works in KC

  8. Oversight?! WTF is the function of the city's lawyers?! Didn't taxpayers have their attorneys in
Kansas City's Corporate Legal Services and Construction Legal Services, at 414 East 12th Street, along with some well compensated consultant attorneys, SIGN AGREEMENTS TO PROMOTE AND PROTECT THE INTERESTS OF THE CITY in financing, constructing, and operations for the airport project?!

  9. Sure a better KCI, and in the meantime Kansas City infrastructure is a hot mess. Business is already starting to bail out of K.C. but hey folks can drive the freeway around K.C. and fly out of the airport never seeing crumbling K.C.

  10. a third-party overseer can be a really good idea. sometimes, however, it's over-priced.

in general, outside expert advisors can be worth it.

hope the city gets the same for financing options.

  15. HNTB has had this in the bag for years.

  16. The contract of the City Manager should be amended, that he cannot take a job after he leaves office, with ANY private contractor who has been awarded a contract for more that a total, during his tenure, of $50,000.

The same should then be stipulated for each Council member. The point of serving the taxpayers is not to pre-feather your nest, and set up your next gig.

When Troy is done (which should come sooner rather than later), let him move out of town. Ends speculation that he cut a deal. (For each manager and council person and mayor, this would need to also preclude going to work for a KC contractor with offices in other cities--includinb Burns & Mac, AECOM, or HNTB.)

12:08, just in general, city hall bureaucrats --all over America, did not graduate at the top of their graduating class, which is why they take these jobs, so they can perform just enough to get by. They didn't get hired for the big private firms. Many are nice folks. But they lack the laser focus of being a real shark, which is what is needed for oversight. Especially on a project like this.

Since they've never overseen such a large project, they can easily be bamboozled. Not to mention wined, dined, Rufi'd, and distracted--look at the shiny object!

KCMO can barely build a fire station with inhouse staff. They can't build an animal shelter. Or a culvert. They already farm out oversight on virtually every large project.

HNTB makes sense. At least it's not Burns & Mac!! LOL. I hate the smell of blood in the morning, and duels went out with Alexander Hamilton and Aaron Burr.

  17. The whole airport is a fucking scam. KCI is fine now. Give me a few hundred million and look at it then.

  18. 713 is right but the fix is in now.

  19. Put a bra shaped expansion that is three times the current Church of the Resurrection super project, so 300 million. You get a large space, add in newest security tech, and stop the pork orgy. If anyone was in doubt about the quality of Kansas City leadership on the Missouri side, I think this fiasco has erased their doubts, this is a slop bucket. Quick, build a Streetcar line to a casino. Those horseshoes are a natural to be expanded outward.

The forces trashing the public interest, nothing the Chamber seems to be able to offer a community representing opinion on. Just making sure their sponsors nod to their next sponsorship. Legal corruption 101. It is amazing that the ATA which is supposed to represent all of KC, had no hand in this and instead it was treated as the KC MO pork orgy to end all orgies. Of course the people of this region pay for the damn thing one way or another.

  20. Sly is the head hog at the trough, and he made the trough available for all the other hoglets. The Chamber must be proud they enabled this process. Kansas, are you glad to support the ATA and KC MO on their escalating farces and abuses that flout collective respresentation
