SHAME!!! KANSAS CITY WEATHER NEWSIES PROMISED SNOWPOCALYPSE AND THEN NOTHING HAPPENED!!!

Constant warnings and typically hyperbolic Kansas city weather coverage has been proven incorrect. Yet again.

To wit . . .

FAKE NEWS!!! KANSAS CITY METEOROLOGISTS BROADCAST SNOWSTORM FEAR THAT DIDN'T COME CLOSE TO MOST OF THEIR LOCAL VIEWERS!!!

Throughout the life of this blog the inaccuracy of local weather forecasts has been a very fun running joke.

For now the link is up but we took a screenshot of the latest local weather blunder for posterity and because "journalism" is just a fancy word for blogging . . .

Kansas City braces for largest snow storm in four years

Recently, our pal Craig Glazer offered a great take on this topic and his words resonate this morning:

"Last year and for the last few years we have had about ten fake weather news stories each season. There are rare "I'm sorries" from the news folks and they just keep on doing it.

Wouldn't it have made sense to predict a possibility of ice and snow, but a wait and see before we hit the panic button?

How many millions were lost by shops, stores, entertainment venues? The list is long.

Oh grocery stores do get busy, we have to buy food and such because we will not be able to get outside for days. Right? Sure thing. Hey, it's wrong to do this every year and every winter. I understand they say its for public safety, but is it?"

And so, life goes on amid yet another broken promise during the Winter of our discontent whilst locals have one less reason to trust "journalism" amid the Internets era.

You decide . . .

  1. Give'em a break. Most of them are just glorified models. If you want the weather, then just stick your head out of the window.

    1. Worst storm in years was a little bit much but it's typical. You think it's bad now, just wait till tornado season.

But there is a bright side, fewer and fewer people are watching network TV nowadays. So be sure to call your parents and calm their nerves on a cloudy day.

    2. Not just weather but also news about upcoming construction projects, crime and interviews with "activists" The news is mostly promotional material and thankfully President Trump has taught the public as much.

I'm not even a Republican but it's never been so obvious that most of the "news" is made up.

  2. The dipshit on KSHB said yesterday noon that it was snowing...."above the clouds".
Huh? And who gives a shit what it's doing above the clouds?

  3. Gary and Bryan need to quit the weather and stick to what they’re good at, which is sucking dicks. They swish around on TV like the faggots they are and just make stuff up.

  4. 5 was the worst, Busby and Joe Lauria actually tried to talk people down. If you don't like the weather, change the channel, that usually changes the problem.

  6. My buddy Super Dave as you know him in here is almost always right about the weather and he claims it's very simple, just learn how to use the NOAA Weather site. Good radar and not just in KC but all around us and forecast discussions that tell you what is happening with the weather.

  7. Winter weather systems are more difficult to predict. Everybody seems to know that except you pants-shitters.

    Amazing.

  8. I use nothing but NOAA and like it. I never listen to local TV weather.

  9. The "news" of the snow storm made me clean out the corner of the garage that has my snowblower in it. Bought gas and made sure it ran. I believe that is the reason why we did not get the snow that was forecasted.

Upside is we didn't have to deal with folks that don't know how to drive in snow.

Everyone gets so irritated when the weather guessers are wrong (which is often), but if they didn't forecast a bad storm and people got hurt, the public would be screaming. Can't everyone just take a deep breath and go on with their lives?

  12. As broadcast television sees more competition from the internets the level of salesmanship will only increase. Every newscaster needs to be P.T. Barnum in order to survive.

  13. I hate the "teases" and always being told that I can stay informed 24 hrs. a day if I download their app.. Right now are the early Feb. "Sweeps". They are all having some sort of contests, more "investigative in depth" stories. more self promotion, and blah, blah blah. Media consultants from their corporate conglomerate owners make the rules. Criticism from could fill volumes. I'll pass.

  14. All I can say is "Katie Horner, where is she when we need her?"

Props to Mike Thompson and Joe Lauria.

  15. Just tune in to 162.550 MHz. Continuous repeater of forecast up to 7 day forecast. No BS, no drama, no commercials, just a computer readout of NOAA weather.

  16. People forgot! In Missouri it was Katie Horner day.

  17. Crap story. The TV weather chicklets get their info from the National Weather Service, probably the best organization of its kind in the world, despite cutbacks in recent years. Weather forecasting is not an exact science, although it is far, far better than it was 20 or 30 years ago. Most of the time, the NWS is right, and far more often than it ever was before. Be glad the NWS is doing such a great job. And fear for what will happen if the Trumpers close it down and give the work to one of their corporate cronies.

  18. NOAA was asking for donations to keep their website up. Supply side economics changed the weather as well!

  21. Blame the salt lobby. Tons of salt were spread on the roads. The roads then fall aprt from the salt. And virtually every business office now has salt and gravel and snomelt products all over the lobbies, ruining floors.

A costly way for TV stations to amp up their ratings.
