TKC TOLD YOU SO!!! KANSAS CITY PARKING CRACKDOWN THREATENS RIVER MARKET!!!

We talked about this tragic, local anti-biz battle LAST YEAR and now it's news fact. Read more:

City working to make parking at River Market more accessible

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Parking has long been a topic of discussion in the River Market but the city is working on some fixes. What's the problem? To understand the issue of parking in Kansas City's River Market District, you need to understand two things: location and changes.

Comments

  1. All about gouging the citizens for easy money, just like writing tickets for very minor house violations. sLIE has to make some extra money to pay for all the law firms he’s dished out work to for the airport, toy train and the hotel

  2. Rational solution - no parking meters, three hours free parking with a timed and dated ticket displayed on the dash, long-term parking for employees displayed on a hang tag, regular parking patrols, towing by city-licensed and (truly) regulated services, establish a near-by tow lot for impounds, and LOTS of warning signs.

  3. How about if KCMO residents pay $50 a year for a city sticker to put on their car and they can park on any city street for free. Residents from JoCo and Missouri suburbs pay for metered parking.

  4. How about getting rid of the currant city officials and get some qualified people in who know how to run a city. We can then hang Sly James bullhorn in the lower level of union station with the other exhibits as the man who wrecked an entire city.

  5. The River Market is being contested by three groups:
First are the transit activists and urban density folks who would like to make using private vehicles so expensive and inconvenient that everyone supports their dreams of public transit and the fantasy that downtown KCMO is becoming New York.
Second are the older residents who fondly remember those halcyon days of shopping at EBT, when the River Market was THE place to be seen and shop for fresh fruit and vegetables. Of course, all that was in the 1950's long before there were farmers markets in most communities of any size throughout the metro.
Third you have small businesses with employees who are just rying to stay open and earn a living for their families.
So far the urban futurist transit gang is winning, which pretty well summarizes the priorities of KCMO city hall and the continuation of the downtown taxpayer-funded amusement park they've spent many millions on creating.
    Sad.

  6. @6:46 that's the best solution I've heard to date.

  7. I pay over $1000 a year to the River Market CID. My employees should be able to park in the area for free since I am paying for the privilege (or now misfortune) of having a long established business in this area. I am also paying earnings tax, sales tax, business income tax, license tax, and property taxes to KCMO. If I have to relocate my company due to this parking policy it will be out of KCMO. I will relocate to a city that wants and appreciated a thriving taxpaying business.

  8. Try Riverside or Parkville, @ 10:18, they both welcome small and mid-sized businesses.

  9. Yes, @10:22am, that's exactly where I am considering. Also North Kansas City. My employees will be happy that they no longer have to pay the 1% earnings tax.
