TKC EXCLUSIVE!!! KANSAS CITY NEW AIRPORT #BETTERKCI MBE/WBE TERMS DEBATED BEHIND THE SCENES!!!

The discussion on the new airport is getting more detailed as City Hall works to secure terms before another consideration of the MOU.

A major talking point . . .

Remember that the Edgemoor MOU calls for 35 percent KCI participation by minority-, women-owned firms.

This has been a sticking point for Council members Quinton Lucas, Alissia Canady and Lee Barnes . . . The numbers and securing guarantees for participation have been a sticking point for these elected officials.

Now . . .

IN A CLOSED MEETING, INSIDERS REVEAL CITY MANAGER TROY AND MAYOR SLY ARE READY TO FORGO THE 35% MBE/WBE REQUIREMENT AND OPT FOR AN AGREEMENT FEATURING 100% UNION CONSTRUCTION ON THE NEW AIRPORT!!! THIS MOVE COULD DRASTICALLY DIMINISH MINORITY PARTICIPATION FOR #BETTERKCI!!!

Like it or not, this proposal would not only meet with approval from the Council at large but puts the ball back in the court of urban core council members who now risk losing a great deal of biz for their constituents whilst haggling for better terms.

Developing . . .

  2. On this one, have to give Sly credit. He's doing the right thing by playing hardball here. Holding up the airport over minority contracting is silly. These requirements are already built into every city contract and the 35% number is far too high.

I've heard Edgemoor has been really generous on this front.

I think Sly is calling their bluff and the council members might be surprised to see how little support they'll get for their 35% number if these negotiations really go down to the wire.

  3. sLie says in private meetings -

"We D's need your money to keep filling our coffers with all that union dues. I will make sure you guys get the contracts.
Don't you fret about the MBE/WBE requirements, me and troy will bury that requirement real good. The voters of KC are too stupid to understand all this business talk. Just keep sending them dues in here. Right to work, MBE/WBE won't happen at my KCI airport or the convention hotel. You can send those under the table payments bribes right here into my personal pocket."

What a group of lying, crooked, no good SOB our City leaders are.

  4. The loser here and in all government contacts is the person paying the bills. Politicians get to feel good about being inclusive at the expense of the tax payer.

  6. Minority clean up crews and food trucks cannot build 35% of an airport.

    They're reliable.

    Not.

  8. Problem is -- where are the minority/women-owned construction businesses? How far afield would you have to go to get even ONE qualified company? Of course, the City can quickly create a company with a black woman as the head honcho. But that wouldn't come close to reaching the 35% target.

Stay tuned for more lies and deceit.

  11. Killa City's "momentum" is making more strides toward designation as too "shitholey". A $billion+ to build a blinged-out "front door to the city" to impress those 24+ million visitors, while the overtaxed, underserved residents suffer high rates of killin' & violence/crumblin' roads & bridges/sharp rises in utilities charges/sucky public schools/increased homelessness/dirt level minimum wage/etc. "KindKC" must mean the "kind" is extended to the crony capitalists. Union labor could get plenty of work building and fixing what the city REALLY needs. But, but, the crony class wants their gated golf communities, private schools, and vacays far away from Killa City, which are very expensive.
