Show-Me Road Ahead Amid Missouri Scandal

It's not very sexy but improving Missouri roads is a very big deal for this session despite the salacious deets that STILL threaten to destroy an otherwise promising career. Checkit: Missouri legislature prepares for state budget, more bills, keeps an eye on Greitens scandal

  1. MoDOT's biggest problem is not within the executive or even legislative branch, it's within their massive bureaucracy. They employ more "staff" than workers; a sure sign of problems. Staff is everything from local engineers, administrative helpers, and of course the administration itself. MoDOT has been dropping millions of bucks on these stupid divergent diamond interchanges that DO NOT IMPROVE THE LOS OF THE ROAD! This has been proven several times over. These interchanges require two bridges to the traditional single bridge. They still queue traffic on the bridge deck in the off-bound lanes. They vaguely improve highway entrance traffic, unless one of the lanes gets clogged by continuing over traffic. These assemblies alone cost 30% - 50% greater than a traditional bridge and is only one of their problems. Utter refusal to use internal crews for any paving project (which the State used to do) is another.

  5. @5:55PM, I'l go ahead and take the bait. One, the traffic light engineer doesn't post on here, it's you, his stalker. Two, every single MoDOT engineer I've met is an arrogant prick, I've met most of them in our region at "public input" sessions and they all qualify for that category. Three, the signal timing in St. Joe has nothing to do with the price of rice in Chiner let alone highway budgeting. Four, MoDOT is famous for f-ups in signal timing and traffic management throughout the State. Five, stalking one MoDOT employee and advocating for their termination does absolutely NOTHING to change the bureaucratic atmosphere that has led to the utter incompetence in MoDOT; that has to come from the top. Six, likely the best solution in the short term would be turn over the MoDOT budget to KDOT to manage for us. I dislike Kansans as much as anyone else, but they have well managed highways throughout the State. We have more roads than them but MoDOTs budget is twice the size.
