Plaza Struggles For Survival

Changes coming to the Country Club Plaza

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- The Country Club Plaza has been a favorite spot for Kansas Citians and travelers from around the globe since it was established in 1922. Through the decades, it's housed large department stores as well as mom-and-pop shops. Lately, moving sale signs have appeared in the windows of popular stores -- but some stores aren't leaving.

Messenger: Don't let Greitens swipe left on Missouri college funding

Dear Claudia, Because of your recent elevation as one of the most famous college students in Missouri, I thought you might be able to help me. Last week, of course, you became an internet sensation after a fellow Missouri State University student emailed every Claudia on campus to try to find you.

Troost Avenue is making a comeback. Could Prospect be next?

In the middle of a chilly winter, green shoots grow on Troost Avenue. Twenty-five years ago, writing that sentence would have been impossible. Troost - the traditional Kansas City boundary separating white from black, well-to-do from poor - seemed a hollowed-out disaster, an unfixable mixture of boarded-up storefronts and broken sidewalks.

And this is the OPEN THREAD for tonight . . .

  1. Let me get this straight, your truck is hit with at least three bullets and the first thing you didn’t do is check on your child, instead you spend the next 15 minutes driving home to grandview like nothing happened. No wonder your dumb ass isn’t being seen on tv asking for the public’s help

  2. It's clear he knows who did it and why.

  3. The Troost revitalization will never fly, the part that has new sidewalks and green space is the same now as it was before, it just looks a little better, except for the trash on the sidewalk and street, that's the same. Buildings have been sitting empty for years. No one will go there, and no one will stay if they do. Oh and the murals on the buildings say a lot , NO WHITES!

  4. WTF?

Dave Helling used the word "black" in an article!!

And the article touched on "race" while profiling an East-side business getting established thanks to the hard work of an entrepreneurial couple.

Dave Helling has made it a practice over the years to steer clear of anything requiring a comment on race relations, or use of the term "black" as a personal descriptor. Is he getting ready to retire? Inquiring minds want to know.

  5. Guess who else promoted an entrepreneurial spirit? Adolf Hitler.

  6. Man, I cannot wait for Corinthian Hall to go public. I've seen a lot of the work in pictures and have half-ass followed the restoration process. It looks to be a very well done job. Hopefully the artsy folk they hire understand stately elegance.
