Kansas City Dead-Tree Newsie Losing Chatter

Thanks to the support of VIEWERS LIKE YOU along with taxpayer cash and progressive billionaire money . . . Newspaper journalists offer their insight into the events of this week that may or may not be as clever as social media discourse that already covered these tragic, recent Kansas City topics.

Check the description . . .

"Nick Haines, Barbara Shelly, Dave Helling, Steve Vockrodt and Steve Kraske discuss the future for Gov. Eric Greitens in the wake of blackmail allegations and calls for his resignation, the status of Sam Brownback's ambassadorship nomination, the escalating turmoil in the Jackson County Legislature, KC not making Amazon's HQ short list, the streetcar ordinance & the latest snag in KCI negotiations."

  1. Looks like Vockrodt comfortably sold out.

  2. Isn't it amazing to contrast "Week In Review" with "Ruckus"?
Haines can keep his show moving and cover the selected topics, while Shannin snarls, snaps and has to talk over his own guests (don't know why they put up with him) and still loses control week after week.

As irrelevant as I think the Star and its crew has made themselves, at least they can discuss the topics coherently, unlike the clusterf**k on "Ruckus" every week.

Of course I realize this is like comparing the Indianapolis 500 to a Trenton, Missouri Demolition Derby, both can be fun to watch, but for far different reasons.

  3. Haines has a good show based on general KC area information and panelists are all cut from the same cloth (KC Star editorial board,Pitch etc). Shannin however tries to give both sides their point of view, but when you have guests like Mary and Jamekia on the panel you have to interrupt because they have no idea what they are talking about and keep saying the same thing over and over.

  4. Barb is the worst. She is nothing more than a democrat party hack.

  5. I have never understood why journalists are deemed to possess superior knowledge or wisdom. Especially when just reading the Star or the Pitch makes it so blindingly obvious that they don't.

  6. I've always praised Nick Haines as perhaps KC's best news presenter, but he works for KCPT which is a politically liberal wing of the Democratic Party.

On this panel, Steve Vockrodt is the only real voice who does investigative journalism. Kraske, Shelly, and Helling are total liberal Democratic Party propaganda shills who do not represent the metro's populace.

Perhaps Haines' hands are tied, but the program would be MUCH better if he hosted a new crop of panelists. Case in point, remember when Ruckus was dominated by Democrats on nearly every episode? After berating Shanin with the factual proof of his program's discrimination, he eventually remedied the mistake and now every show features a more balanced panel.

Haines needs to feel the same wrath. I don't know if Vockrodt expresses his politics, but we all know that Kraske, Shelly, and Helling are LIBERAL DEMOCRATS, so that's at least a 3:1 imbalance.

  7. There is something about Mary... better to be thought of as non-relevant than to speak and remove all doubt.
It’s rather painful to watch the demise of newspapers and watch something like this and start to understand why.

  8. It's been a great news show, lots of good content, the problem and why I quit watching it, members of the KC Star are on there. This is the same group that has ruined what was once a great paper.

  10. KCPT = Legacy journalist rest home.

  11. Most of you critics have never spent a moment in a newsroom, let alone earned a (very meager) paycheck grinding out your lives in meetings, sifting through courthouse files or wearing down your shoe leather trying to piece together the facts and listen to as many of the players involved as possible while slamming home a story on deadline. Shut.The.Fuck.Up. until you know anything about which you yammer. Merely buying a newspaper once doesn't make you an expert on journalism, reporters or editors. Try reading a newspaper, hell, maybe even more than one.I'm guessing that's too challenging.
