Sketchy plans for Downtown Kansas City are now falling apart despite a great deal of hype about the financial benefit of the "creative class" on the local economy. Here's the latest scheme that's falling apart signalling overall weakness in so many nearby real estate ambitions:

UMKC Downtown Arts Campus On Brink Of Collapse After Losing Key Funding

In a major setback to downtown's cultural ambitions, the planned UMKC Downtown Conservatory has suffered a fatal financial blow, losing a $20 million private pledge essential to building the project. First reported by CityScene KC , the Muriel McBrien Kauffman Foundation has withdrawn its $20 million pledge after deciding the ambitious project as originally planned was no longer viable.

  1. Now there's no reason to extend the streetcar down to Brookside/UMKC main campus. The streetcar was going to be a free shuttle for UMKC students to go back and forth between campus locations.

  5. Actually it was the douche in Jefferson City that pulled $48 million (which has conveniently disappeared completely) in funding that was set aside for this project before he took office!

    This State can't be rid of that asswipe soon enough!
