How Can We Make Kansas City Infrastructure Stronger And Self-Sustaining???

Preview of a conversation tonight . . . Chuck Marohn, a civil engineer, land use planner, and founder of the nonprofit Strong Towns, examines what he says is a need to build cities and suburbs differently, establishing a land use and transportation pattern that produces enough long-term revenue to build resilient, self-sustaining – i.e. “strong” – towns and cities.

Chuck Marohn, founder of the nonprofit Strong Towns, launches the new Making a Great City series with a critical look at how we build our cities and towns - in Kansas City and elsewhere. Current land use and transportation patterns aren't cost-effective, he says. Change is needed.

  1. To make our infrastructure stronger we would first have to get rid of Sly and get an honest mayor that wanted what’s best for Kansas City. Second, we would have to get rid of the city council and get an honest city council. Third, get rid of the streetcar. Fourth, remodel KCI. Fifth, the hotel plans are dunzo and so is Mike Burke. Then we can start on the infrastructure.

  3. And lop off about the top three levels of Management and Administration in every City Department, hen appoint a new Department Head from about the fourth level down, telling them to get the job done or hit the road.

Seriously, the workers and their supervisors know what needs to be done and how to do it, and the Departments are given plenty of money to get things done, but far too much time and treasure gets pissed away on Admin. Compensation, Travel, and Meetings!

  5. ^^^^ u dolt that is the whole point of the streetcar and walkable communities, u do not need to build more roads. Build more roads where & why idiot. If anything you need to build bike/walk only corridors, shut down a few roads, and separate the bike/walk from your car instead of the pathetic spots of green pavement designating bike lanes. Is it absolutely necessary to drive a car E_W on 19th st. altho not in direct proximity, anyone actually use KS-5 or MO-9, empty every time i pass them.
