Missouri's movie stereotype is well-earned
Kathy Love's "Dispatch from Ebbing" (Jan. 24) to the effect that "Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri" and similar movies create an unfortunate stereotype of Missouri and that we need to reject it is sadly naive. In order to support her thesis that we need to reject that picture, she lists the very reasons why that stereotype is well-earned.
Here we go, get our your "Hate Whitey" hats and feel good about "Diversity".

If you want to win an Oscar or a Golden Globe just have a liberal message in your movie. The film can suck, be inaccurate and boring but the critics will rave about it.

Billboards and Missouri go hand in hand. Outdoor advertising has such a powerful grip on the Missouri General Assembly that you will live a long life and never see fewer billboards. Its funny that, in this film, these billboards are used to push back against complacency, the way things are and injustice.
