Truman Med Teeters On The Brink Of Financial Crisis Amid New GOP Tax Cut Bill

Quick look at the local impact of tax cut legislation on locals in desperate need of healthcare access.

Checkit:

Examiner: Key hospital funding unresolved

Deets:

"What’s the issue: Truman Medical Centers, with campuses near Lakewood and on Hospital Hill, is the area’s only safety net hospital. Critical funding is at stake, and Congress this week only passed a stopgap measure to address it.

"How does it affect me: About one-fourth of TMC’s patients lack health insurance. It provides more than $100 million a year in uncompensated care – one-third of that for residents of Eastern Jackson County."

  4. Cut welfare, EBT and the building of Section 8 housing to pay for the hospital.

Make people take drug tests to qualify for benefits before receiving welfare, EBT and any other Gubbmint subsidies and the money will be there to build KU Med Center type facilities all over the nation in towns as small as Harrisonville.

There will be doctors on every corner, discounting rates and ready to perform heart transplants during red lights.

The Gubbmint wastes money at an almost unconscionable rate.

The money is there, it is just being wasted in the pockets of Federal Employees and "Administrators" who were hired because of the color of their skin and vote Democrat.

  7. ^^^You really want to save money? Cut the defense budget by half(no one would notice), cut corporate welfare, and send any CEO of an American corporation that does there banking in off-shore accounts to Federal Pounding in the Ass Prison. All of you want to do away with the ACA you know will happen? People will use the emergency room as there doctor, just like the did before. Talk about waste. You do realize that millions of full time Wal-Mart employees are on government subsidies right? Yes,there ate plenty of worthless, welfare queens feeding off the system that need to get a job. A lot of the problem is in America often a job isn't enough. You know between 2008-2015 AT&T got 38 billion in government subsidies and in at least one year paid zero in taxes? You can be pissed at people on welfare all you want but the corporations are the ones really getting a free ride.

    1. A lot of truth right there

I think it was Thomas Jefferson that said that America will remain a country only until it's people realize they vote money from the treasury

  8. Goddamn, health care in this country was just about perfect before Obummer got his hands on it.

It was the best bargain dollar-for-dollar with any other health care in the world until that goddamned Kenyan went and ruined everything.

ARRRRRGGHH, I'M JUST SO MAD AT HIM!!

  9. 2008 to 2015, wasn’t that during Barry’s time as prez? There’s the real problem right there, who gave away the farm and killed the middle class. Barry did it all to give it away to his murderering, thieving rapeing robbing people.

  10. And the corporations are writing paychecks to hard working Americans everyday aren’t they. Raises were virtually nothing under Barry’s tax tax tax presidency, everyday items got more expensive and it got harder to live. People that used to make decent money are now living paycheck to paycheck. Bitch at the corporations all you want but without them we’re all standing in the welfare line. If I was a gazillionaire I’d put my money where ever It got taxed the least too and apparently it’s still legal so......

Don’t forget health insurance was reasonably priced too before Barry showed up, mine has gone up 25% since Obamacare started and I haven’t gotten raises since it started either. That is lost income for me and my family

  11. Having a heart attack and getting a stent or two placed only cost $30K before that daggum Obama came along.

When that suitwearing monkey came into office I swear to God on High that the cost raised to $32K overnight!

That's the real problem right there, that stinking Obummer drivong up them medical costs!!

  12. 9:10 real wages have stayed the same since the early 70's so it's not just an Obama problem. The law of supply and demand has been defied in America. Companies desperately need help, yet wages have not risen. Anger is misplaced, stop buying the lie, blaming immigrants and such for all our problems. That is what the pathetic leadership of this country wants you to believe.

  13. I was getting raises until Obamacare kicked in, then my insurance went up 6 and 7% a year after that. Can’t wait to see what happens next year though. I’m not sure where you get your facts about wages being stagnant since the seventys but I guess it’s possible in some areas

  14. Medicare for all.

Grow the fuck up America and join the rest of the developed world, you're gonna pay for it one way or another.

  16. Tech lead, new generation medicare for all. How come we are so bad at what many in the world seem to be able to do ok. Perhaps it is decisive sabotage through partisan clusters. 10:48 takes the field with the comments, so if you are going to pay for it, then make it smarter and efficient and do it right, taking best practices wherever they come from, and leveraging the worlds leading tech industry.

  20. Hey 8:31, where were you when obama was giving out his cell phones. Needed that cell phone infrastructure for cell phone companies like at&t to build more cell towers. Just google "obama phone".

  21. "Legit question: I thought Obama mandated everyone to have insurance...how is 1/4 of the patients at Truman uninsured?"

In most cases it was cheaper to pay the Obamacare "tax" for not having health insurance than to buy insurance, which was very expensive. And why bother to buy insurance BEFORE you get sick when you can do so AFTER, especially knowing that hospitals will not turn you away? Altogether it was a really dumb idea.

  22. 8:31, I seriously doubt that AT&T got $38B in government subsidies (not tax credits or deductions), or anywhere near it. Post a reliable source for that info.

  23. What a bummer that Truman can not use the dregs to mooch Federal and State funds. Looks like they need to change their business model and start reaming paying customers like HCA does.
