TKC MUST SEE!!! CHRISTMASTIME PIX OF ABANDONED KANSAS CITY CHURCH!!!

Some of the most remarkable photography we've seen all year shared by Hyperblogal . . . Like it or not, this photo set captures the spirit of Christmas in Kansas City perfectly amid the current development agenda debate at City Hall. Checkit:

House Of God

The first church on this site was built in 1887. The above building was constructed in 1924 and operated as St. Francis Seraph until 1991 when the Parish was combine with St. John and Assumption to become St. Anthony. It's been vacant ever since.

  1. My mom grew up in the bottoms and she went to church there, there used to be a school next door that was vacant when we were kids and we used it as a fort. I remember going to church there as a kid and it was a beautiful church. The last owner was a junk collector and he pretty much ignored taking care of it, really sad to see it like that now. There’s a new owner who hopefully will do something good with it, but who knows, it will never be as nice as it was that’s for sure.

  2. What happened to all the money the church collected over the last century?

  5. Yeah, what another squandered resource by Catholics. More of that waste is seen on 5th Street in KCK where St. Mary's church, an Irish immigrant built parish church and school (closed long ago), is rotting away. A local, former District Atty's relatives got ownership of the church while their fellow parishioner friend (she was KCK mayor at the time) saw to it that Strawberry Hill museum got select contents from the beautiful interior. God only knows where the other fine fixtures went. I saw the blighted tumble-down interior ten years ago when volunteering to sort and package items that Catholic Charities and Turnstyles were storing there. It sat neglected while on a Nat'l Registry that qualified it for grants received, then, got listed for sale, but no buyers would pay the asking price. Oh, yeah, the Dotte. We got an empty and deteriorating LEED-certified structure just a half block north of St. Mary's that isn't generating revenues, either. That building was constructed for and occupied, briefly,by the EPA. But, but, the 9th floor executive suites for the KCK Mayor is so very nicely appointed.

  6. They should open a strip club in there and allow drugs to be used. Get lots of hot young sluts to work there. Keep it open all night. Lots of VIP rooms for sexual activity.

  7. ^^^^ it could end up like that since the whole area is being bought up by the guy that used to own boulevard beer and the guy that owns knuckleheads

  9. What will it cost us to move the building to 18th and Vine. It would make a dandy Dead and Breakfast.
