TKC MUST READ!!! WALMART FAM WANTS TO PRIVATIZE KANSAS CITY SCHOOLS!!!

Check this EXCELLENT glimpse at a plan that's already underway in Kansas City and confronting education officials.

While many argue that privatization will benefit Kansas City Public Schools . . . Others decry the clandestine tactics.

In this NO HOLDS BARRED blog post on the subject, credit the author with making the choice clear for denizens of the district given that local media isn't p to the task.

Kansas City: The Stealth Plan by Walton to Turn Kansas City into a Portfolio District

Deets:

The privatizers are back, with a new name, and a local native-born leader touting the virtues of the “portfolio model” and a “common enrollment application” for public schools and charter schools. The new approach is funded by the privatization-loving Walton Family Foundation and the Kauffman Foundation. OneApp, the common enrollment system is intended to confuse parents about the differences between public schools and charter schools, and give the appearance that they are the same. They are not. Charter schools choose their students; public schools do not. Charter schools may close without warning; public schools do not. Charter schools are not willing to take the students with the greatest needs; public schools are required to do so.

And so far, many education leaders in Kansas City seem to have fallen for the “portfolio model,” which is a stealth way of importing privatization.

The Kansas City superintendent, Mark Befell, is approaching the new bait warily. But the stars are aligning to put Kansas City into the grasp of the privatizers

  1. The very best thing they could do for Kansas City.

Parents need a choice. Notice that there wasn't much progress this year toward accreditation. Under these circumstances it would be unfair to keep students in schools that are under-performing.

  2. Sadly, this effort will be met by the usual "community leaders" who will bring mobs of shrieking make-believe parents to "town hall meetings" where they will make demands, shout others down, and try to intimidate people who are trying to intelligently explain and discuss the proposal.
Facts, knowledge, and actual information will be in short supply in the audience.
And behind the scenes, the array of grifters who make bank with the current school systems in KCMO will be working diligently to spike anything and anyone who might threaten to take away their punch bowl.
As usual, educating kids and giving them a real chance at life will come dead last.

  3. Honest question because you bring up grifters: the Walton family has made billions of dollars on the backs of poor people. Literally will cut every corner they can for profit but now you think this would just be a benevolent venture. That they care so much about the poor black children of KCMO?

Or is the grift just about to change hands and become even more exploitative of those kids? I'd rather the district be dissolved into the surrounding districts than turn these kids over to the Waltons

    1. At least at WalMart I can buy a cheap jar of pickles. In other words, it serves a purpose.

      KCPS???

  4. To make this work, you could not allow any input from the school board or the parents

  5. @6:55am makes an interesting point, but I'm not sure there's much correlation between how money is made and how it is spent.
A quick look at how the Robber Barons like Rockefeller, Carnegie, and others made their money through intimidation, market control, and trusts, isn't likely to engender much support from most people.
Yet the good the efforts that their expenditures through various foundations and organizations has done and continues to do is hard to fault.
And, of course, this proposal includes participation by the Kauffman Foundation, an organization founded by a local icon and governed by local people who you'd have to hope would have their own community's best interest at heart.
Whether or not this latest idea has merit or any practical chance of making a difference in the KCPS is certainly worth debating.
But doing the same things, the same way, with the same people seems likely to continue the failures of the past.
And another lost generation of young people.

  6. The blacks will never learn anything in kcmosd if things don’t change. It’s time those people learned something other than everything is free and that they have to earn it to own it. Best idea ever! I wonder if sLIE even knows this is going on?

  7. Sly wants privatization. He's a proponent of this plan.

  8. "...the Walton family has made billions of dollars on the backs of poor people." By providing decent quality merchandise at low prices?

  9. ^^Ha ha ha ha Are you stupid? Seriously? Wal-Mart merchandise is the worst! The absolute worst junk. All imported from China. Cheap junk made to sell cheaply to rubes who don't know better. Wake up & grow up. If you patronize Wal-Mart, you're part of the problem.

  10. ^^^^^I don't shop at Walmart because there's not one close to me, but if you stereotype everyone who doesn't agree with you or adhere to your shopping restrictions, I'd say that makes you part of the problem.

  11. @6:55, why should the surrounding districts absorb "kids" that will ONLY seek to destroy their school district? Every single one of the adjacent districts that absorbed KCPS kids several years ago experienced a major rise in student violence and crime in the schools. This is not "just a coincident."

On the other side of things, were/are you in favor of common core (BS) educational concepts? That was foisted on us by Bill Gates and designed to create generations of uneducated young adults unable to think for/by themselves. The result is most of the millennial generation.

Oh, and don't take this post in any way as support for the walton proposal. The walton's are ego-maniacs whose single and only purpose is lining there own pocketbooks on the backs of poor people. The entire WM organization stinks from bottom to top.

  12. @9:03AM, 8:59 is dead on the money. Wal-Mart is shit. If your delicate sensibilities were offended, grow up. It's not a stereotype to say Wal-Mart shoppers are a bane to the USA economy.

    ReplyDelete
  13. @9:11, I should clarify that I am not advocating that surrounding districts absorb KCPS kids. I think an elected school board is best for KCPS & the citizens of its district should ultimately be responsible for its success or failure. They chose the leadership.

What I am never in favor of is public institutions and their money being unaccountable to the public. That goes for CIDs, TIF commissions, charter schools etc. If you want to assure public money is misused and that public is not served, put an unelected and unaccountable quasi-govt body there. That is why the city of KC is where it stands today. Development decisions made by unelected boards, policing by unelected commissioners responsible to a governor who could care less about safety in KCMO (Nixon AND Greitens), etc etc.

The ship is sinking and no one is responsible.

  14. Chicago is already doing this.
Takes about two + years for things to trickle down to KC from big cities.

Have you checked the definition of "stereotype" lately?

  17. Walmart led to the destruction of rural America

Not only did they bypass American manufacturing to stock their stores with cheap overseas products; but pushed main street mom and pop hardware, appliance, and specialty stores out of business.

Small businesses that provided good middle income were replaced by part time minimum wage jobs with no health care.

  19. ^^^ It serves no purpose whatsoever. It serves it's master. The people who shop there are chattel. Fuck you and your need for cheap pickles.

  20. You should try Brooklyn Brine Co. pickles from New York. Snooty AF, but they can a good jar o' cucs. I just have one of our 25 mil visitors per year bring some down to me.

  21. Let the waltons have it, they can run the schools better blind folded from Arkansas than anybody we’ve had for over forty years now. To hell with you whiny ass libtards!

  22. Progressives got the schools in the mess they’re in now. Time for a different approach now.

  23. The United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights provides that a parent be able to educate their children in a manner of their own choosing. Meaning, they should not be forced to use the government schools. To me that sounds exactly like vouchers and private schools. So as all the cutesy little liberal snowflakes bow down to United Nations one world government ... This is what you get.

  24. To hell with whiny ass geezers who say "libtards"

  25. 2:28, as your pickle supplier is visiting Industry City, have him or her stop by the Li-Lac Chocolates factory and pick you up some samples.

  26. Geezers call’em like they see’um! Bitches!!!

  27. People like the Waltons want to educate people who will be just smart enough to work at their stores and factories. It is one of the reasons college is getting so expensive, so just the elite can attend or the people willing to borrow so much money they become indentured servants upon graduation. You know who makes the best employees? Broke employees. They don't bitch, they don't question, and they don't quit. They can't afford to. They will eat an unending amount of shit. If you think the Waltons are doing this out of the goodness of their hearts, think again. I bet you they are close personal friends and campaign contributors to Betsy Davis.

  28. @5:11, nailed it. I'm a paycheck to paycheck kinda worker bee. I lose one paycheck and I'm fairly eff'd. So I'll stay doing what I do with no complaint no "looking elsewhere" or anything else that would jeopardize that paycheck.

  29. Appropriate discussion at Christmas.

Old man Potter, I mean Walton, just wants all of us to have no choice but to slave away at the Company Store.

Teachers pay is substandard as it is. Just wait until they are no longer required to be credentialed and certified, and then have to report to a Walmart type business model.

Don't we shit on them enough?

  30. Anything would be an improvment over the day prisons being ran for the urban youth that inables the welfare mothers time to eat all ice cream at home before release time. KCMO is an urban zoo.
