TKC MUST READ!!! CRAIG GLAZER PLOTS KANSAS CITY CHIEFS COMEBACK!!!

A thoughtful note from our pal Craig offers an important perspective on current Kansas City football hard times which acknowledges the history and glory days of the team. Checkit:

Craig Glazer: How To Fix The Chiefs Moving Forward! It's A Mess!

So Andy Reid benches Marcus Peters for Sunday's game with the Raiders! We have no pass defenders to begin with do we. This likely insures the loss to Oakland Sunday right. Odd the Chiefs once again are favored over the Raiders, as they have been in all their recent losses, ha. Remember Peters threw a yellow flag into the stands against the Jets last week, which meant nothing, we already had two penalties on the play to begin with, right. He was not ejected and took himself out. Clearly he was frustrated, as he should be with no help from his defense all day and all month. Odd last year Travis Kelce threw a yellow flag back at the ref after being called for a penalty and they added one more, he was not punished. Has Andy just lost control of this bad football team?

Oakland is now in the drivers seat in the division, though its a three way tie for first all at 6-6. However Oakland beat KC in the heads up game this year and another win gives them the division should we tie them on our record at seasons end. Uh, that's highly unlikely, Chiefs are headed for third place behind Oakland and the Chargers. There are many scenarios but with the Chiefs near the leagues bottom and clearly one of the NFL's worst teams a tie for first with them is doubtful to say the least. In fact them winning a game or two is a long shot. Kansas City has no running game, the league's worst defense and tons of other problems from coaching to players even wanting to put it all out there to begin with anymore. Did I forget to mention the overall poor play of our quarterback? That as well.

Since this is a lost season what can KC do to fix the mess next year? The Chiefs have salary cap issues, few draft picks having given them away for Pat Mahomes as well as needing like ten or more spots filled just to compete. Where do we start? The Chiefs should draft a new left tackle and git rid of the awful Eric Fisher, yet another first round bust pick. The Chiefs will try and pick up on trade or purchase at least one or two more Offensive lineman. KC will look for another running back and pass receiver as well. We need to focus on the offense for next year due to starting the hopeful young star, Pat Mahomes. He will need help that is just not there today. So lets get him a decent offense to work with as he starts.

The Chiefs defense has almost nothing. Our entire linebacking crew is toast. Yes that includes the seemingly always wounded Justin Houston who has been of not much help all year. Justin's knee seems to be a goner. Clearly Dee Ford should go, another first round bust pick and its time to release or retire Derrick Johnson, he's just done. We get some cap space back by cutting already gone Tamba Hali. We have no defensive backfield, save Peters. So fixing the defense and offense is next to impossible with so many holes with just one draft and a few trades or pickups. Remember this isn't a team outstanding players will want to come and join next year. Why? Clearly the Chiefs are a non contender even if Pat is great guns. Too many problems to fix in one season.

So if Pat is a young super star, much like Houston's Watson, the Chiefs could be a scoring machine. Problem we will give up so many points we just can't win enough games to compete for a playoff spot. Perhaps with two drafts and of course trying to get some picks or players for Alex Smith we can be good in two years.

A big issue is Andy Reid. Clearly he is the coach and overall manager of this franchise. Clark Hunt won't be fast to pull the trigger on the aging and now somewhat ineffective head coach. Lets face it Andy did help turn a lemon into a peach but no cigars. While the Chiefs got to the playoffs three of his first four seasons, none of his teams where truly very good, a play off joke and Andy just doesn't seem to be the guru that we were led to believe he used to be, huh. I think we need a younger more modern leader who can get more out of his star players, if have any. The trick is motivating those average NFL players on the line at times to be at their best and fill the holes, ours don't.

The good news is all the angry fans from this year will of course be back next year to see if Pat can be an exciting star. Look how great Tyreek Hill can be if someone can get the ball downfield often enough to hit him, the guy can get past any defenders deep but the quarterback needs to be able to hit that 60 plus yard bomb more than once in a great while, as we have seen this season. Somebody needs to coach Travis Kelce on how to get open in the second half so he can be a weapon and not an advertisement for himself available only early in games. We have no red zone offense, can't throw or run the ball near the goal, just field goals. Thats when Kelce is needed down there and we need a back who can pick up tough short yards, we don't have one today. Kareem Hunt is now a project for next season but after 6 games of nothing much, you can't count on his being a solid starter.

Again lots to fix, it will take time. Pat Mahomes is likely a great start, but he will need some help. It's too late for this season, the team has left the building for the most part. Don't feel bad for Alex Smith, he leaves KC with over 100 million dollars, remember he had a contract before this one. I think Alex looks forward to playing elsewhere, if he doesn't retire and go to the booth. Arizona, Miami or another big city might be attractive to his family and Alex, they are not vested in Kansas City community. Don't get me wrong he is a team guy and enjoyed his stay but its over, he can't fix it and he knows it. Hey Chiefs fans there is always next year, there has been since that 1970 Super Bowl win with Len Dawson. Ah, those were the days. Maybe one day it will happen again.
