TKC EXCLUSIVE!!! KANSAS CITY ACTIVIST WARNS OF FROZEN HOBO POPSICLE CRISIS AND DEMANDS STREETCAR SUSPEND DEBOARDING RULE!!! SHOULD TOY TRAIN LET HOMELESS RIDE ALL DAY OR CONTINUE FORCING THEM INTO THE COLD???

There is a political transportation crisis threatening Kansas City amid this EPIC ARCTIC COLD FRONT.

To wit . . .

SPECIAL THANKS TO A LOCAL ACTIVIST FOR CRYING FOUL AGAINST KANSAS CITY STREETCAR POLICY WHICH FORCES HOMELESS INTO THE COLD!!!

Here's the word . . .

"Ask around, all of the Kansas City warming stations and shelters are at the breaking point right now. The Christmas donations were way down and we're struggling to keep up with a massive influx of homeless seeking shelter from the cold. In the middle of this, I'm getting a lot of complaints that the streetcar is STILL kicking people out at Union Station. It's a stupid policy in the first place but under these conditions it's nothing less than a nefarious stance."

Don't believe that the streetcar could be this cruel? They kick around hobos all year and their policy is in writing. Check the KC Streetcar website to find rule #6 in the code of conduct:

"All passengers must deboard streetcar when arriving at Union Station."

In practice, the waiting period is at least 30 minutes under these conditions and hanging out in Union Station isn't always an option for those who don't have cash to eat at the fancy restaurant, get a high-priced coffee or purchase a bus ticket - Remember those business are entitled to request patrons move on if they're not buying anything whereas the streetcar promises a free ride to every Kansas City visitor.

Meanwhile, we see the toy train getting some special consideration as neighborhood streets remain an icy mess . . .

It may be snowing in downtown KC but the #kcstreetcar tracks are clear. @TomGerend

And so . . .

Given that the toy train has subverted local Democracy, cost MILLIONS and still inspires election slap-fighting . . . Should the Kansas City Streetcar accommodate less fortunate riders or continue catering to tourists whilst risking arctic hobo death???

UPDATE: In social media messages exchanged back & forth - The Streetcar now promises to be "lenient" with their deboarding policy during this frigid weather.

You decide . . .

  1. It's damn cold out there.

True about the shelters, getting emergency emails for donations this morning.

Giving to City Union Mission would be the right thing to do now.

Maybe they should start charging a fare?

    2. I'll tell you one of the problems that might provide a quick fix: Idiots over at KCATA haven't moved on the warming stations yet and are slow to tell the media about them.

That's what you get when you hire somebody so unqualified and inept for an important job.

Thank you for posting this TK, now hopefully we'll get some speed out of KCATA during this mess.

  2. Let the homeless stay on the streetcar, it will help with the ridership numbers.

Also, there aren't any tourists on the damn thing in this weather anyway.

    1. KC needs a better plan for the growing number homeless, we're talking about it now because it's a crisis but there must be a better way than just dealing with it like an emergency situation. A more strategic approach is needed if KC claims to be a world class city.

  3. Are the progressive millinials upset that they have to ride with poor people? Poor babies, they’ll have to go to their safe place and drink specialty coffee to calm down! Need a hug you little whiny bitches! Ask a hobo! Lmao!!!

  4. "SHOULD TOY TRAIN LET HOMELESS RIDE ALL DAY OR CONTINUE FORCING THEM INTO THE COLD???"

For heaven's sake, let the homeless stay on the toy choo choo. Why should the choo choo be a welfare project only for the hipsters?

This may be the choo choo's highest and best use this time of the year, so learn to share, you selfish twits

  5. Non-hobos ride that thing? I thought it was like a homeless ferry from one end of downtown to the other.

  6. Does this "local activist" have a "name?"

If not he probably doesn't exist. Just another way to take a delusional cheap shot at the streetcar.

    1. Not a cheap shot at the train, just an accurate assessment of the clowns that oversee it.

  7. Of course they should kick the homeless off. It isn’t a homeless shelter. Different municipal services serve different needs. WTF is wrong with you people.

No cop in the world would put a homeless person off the train in this weather. Tell them to tell the drivers NO they refuse to deboard. The homeless need to stand up for their rights. There are many who would help them in this cause. The streetcar is horrible for trying to enforce these rules during a winter weather advisory.

    1. I've seen "help wanted" ads online for restaurants. It's warm inside and could get some grub. Oh yeah, they don't want a job. Should help them self deport to Cali. They can have them

  9. Why doesn't the KANSAS CITY ATHEIST COALTION get involved???

They are always bragging about how "good" they are...I have even seen them marching around the Plaza carrying signs saying "Atheists Are Good" or something like that.

    Or are they just TALK?

  10. Hey maybe we can call it "The Poo Choo" shelter. You can call a turd a Tootsie Roll but, it will still taste like Poo!

    ReplyDelete
  11. THEY CAN STAY WARM BY PICKING UP ALL THE FUCKING MESSES THEY LEAVE AROUND TOWN..HEY HOBOS STOP STEALING THE SHOPPING CARTS,BICYCLES AND ANYTHING ELSE PEOPLE KEEP IN THEIR BACKS YARDS..FUCKING TWO LEGGED PACKRATS

  12. As was predicted early on, the streetcar has become no more than a bum storage unit during the winter. Some of the bums who have appropriated streetcars as their houses are crazy, many are dangerous, most are socially disfunctional and nearly all are malodorous. But the streetcar is theirs now - they know it and we know it. Even for free, that's not going to attract many of the 24 million tourists who visit KC every year.

Since the streetcar is now their home, it makes no sense to evict them for a few minutes at Union Station, unless that time is needed to clean up the mess they have made. In fact, why not let them board with sterno fired hot pads and kitchenware. It would be cruel to make them do without.

  13. If the ride is suppose to be free for everyone then that includes hobos homeless or what ever you want to call them.

To not let them ride is discrimination.

    ReplyDelete
  14. 9:50 it's not discrimination if everyone is treated the same. Ride and get off, the train is not a mobile homeless shelter.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Let them ride.

It's a shame that they are being told to get out into the cold! Shame you you streetcar!

    ReplyDelete
  16. Fuck You 11:15 ya heartless prick

    ReplyDelete
  17. Ummm... you know they can get right back on, right? There is no "waiting period [of] at least 30 minutes". And even if there were they don't need money to hang out inside Union Station to get warm. There are plenty of benches in there.

    ReplyDelete
  18. The world's most expensive homeless shelter. A tourist attraction in its own right.

    #winningKC

    ReplyDelete
  19. ^^^ Mixed results on this, sometimes the wait is longer, sometimes shorter BUT I have noticed a lot more bums roaming around Union Station the past couple of days. So the smarter ones are catching on.

    ReplyDelete
  20. The trolley is for tourist. Local hobos should not be allowed on it.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Why don’t we let them live in Kemper?

    ReplyDelete
  22. I've ridden the toy train in bitterly cold weather. It's no fun every time the doors swing open and the cold air blasts through. That plus the fact there are very few actual seats on the thing. One problem though....the entire route is only 2 miles long so it doesn't go anywhere most folks need to go. Right? The homeless are better off on the regular buses. They are a lot warmer in the winter.

    ReplyDelete
  23. KCMO has to be the ONLY "world class" city in which the daily schedule for THE streetcar is actually reported on the local television news.
    What an embarrassing joke.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Isn't Bartle Hall empty most of the time ?

    ReplyDelete
  25. Maybe Slysters new airport can put a homeless camp I one corner, use the runway lights for heat.

    ReplyDelete
  26. The sort of cold we’re having now and coming this weekend isn’t fit for man or beast and anyone who would put either out in it is shameful.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Fuck that^^^^^ This country was built on survivors that didn't get handouts. Its pussy fucks like you that are TRYING to destroy this country. Candy ass fuck.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Horses, cows, sheep, pigs will survive tonight. Bums and street people also. 7:44, how many are you putting up? I bet ZERO.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Maybe the city should make buses free during peak frigid weather weeks? They could ride the Max bus from River Market all the way to Waldo and stay warm.
