TKC BREAKING NEWS!!! MISSOURI BILL THREATENS KANSAS CITY MAYOR SLY #NEWKCI AIRPORT LEGACY!!!

Critics of the new Kansas City new airport endeavor enure "slap-in-the-face-so-hard-your-mother-feels-it" insult after injury when they realize that #NewKCI could be named after Mayor Sly James. Accordingly, a bit of legislation from an underdog Blue Springs Republican might address this concern.

The bill is short and sweet and doesn't have much of a chance given that the GOP also loves living tribute . . .

"No state land or building shall be designated in honor of an individual unless such person has been deceased for more than two years."

Big money loophole . . .

"This section shall not apply if money is donated to a state entity in exchange for the right to name state land or buildings."

Rep. Dan Stacy of Blue Springs authored this masterpiece with what looks like the best of intentions that hopes to deter politicians from spending public funds on personal legacy projects.

Because the new airport doesn't seem to be taking donations, then this long shot legislation might keep Mayor Sly's name off the new plastic & glass triumph of the Greater KC Chamber of Commerce.

In the meantime, look for continued fighting on this topic and another sketchy financial proposal that will be foist upon frustrated voters.

Developing . . .

  2. I'd go a step further and stipulate that all of this stuff that we currently name after members of the political class instead be named after members of the productive class. After all, they paid for it.

  6. Burns and Mac should name their headquarters building after Sly.
After all, no one's done more to make the last couple years as good for them as he has.
And the city actually owns the building....all just a part of the massive tax breaks, subsidies, and other financial deals that were arranged by the gang at 12th and Oak.
    Great legacy!

  8. @9:38, ding-dong, you do realize you're posting comments to a blog, right? An opinion based page "published" by one guy with a heavy interest in all things KCMO. It just happens to have a lot of insightful, poignant information and news that many of us enjoy. It additionally allows for free, unfiltered comments from individuals who may have good insight, may be trolls, may have good points with a very brash way of stating them. It sounds like reading TKC and the comment sections really drives you nutty; that is NOT good for your health. I'd recommend you stay with the KC Star for what local information you are interested in and HuffPo for comment sections that reflect your same values.
