TKC BREAKING NEWS!!! CLAY COUNTY COMMISSIONERS FIGHT OVER LAW ENFORCEMENT CASH MONDAY MORNING!!!

The Kansas City Northland remains the fast growing community across the metro and the issue of police protection for this community is a primary concern for residents.

To wit . . .

CHECK OUT FIRST NEWS OF AN EPIC CLAY COUNTY FIGHT OVER MONEY FOR LAW ENFORCEMENT FUNDING!!!

Behind the scenes . . . We hear Commish Nolte is raising a ruckus on the topic of law enforcement funding and while we may not always agree with the hardcore right-wing dude, we can't help but respect the fact that the only thing he hates more than illegal immigrants is government waste and screwed up priorities with taxpayer cash.

Real talk, insiders tell TKC that this political debate hot mess is every bit as bad as the fighting in Jackson County right now . . .  However, this note is shared out of concern for proper funding of law enforcement - An issue that's being overlooked in every part of the Kansas City metro.

Accordingly, check this behind the scenes note that's quickly circulating around town but documented FIRST on TKC . . . NOTE - There are a few edits for length, clarity & highlights but overall here's the sitch:

COMMISSIONER RIDGEWAY AND OWENS' WAR ON LAW ENFORCEMENT

At yesterday’s Commission Meeting Commissioners Ridgeway and Owen continued their attacks on the Sheriff’s Department and steamrolled another $605,784 cut on top of the earlier reductions, in Amendment 1. Budgets are about setting priorities, what is important and what is less important. In the initial budget earlier, this week the priorities of the Associate Commissioners were made obvious. These slashes in the Sheriff’s budget are in defiance of Missouri Statute 221.080 County commission to bear certain expenses.

We will be taking up the final vote on the County Budget on Monday 10:00 am at the County Courthouse, Commissioners Meeting Room.

THIS IS OVER ONE HUNDRED MILLION OF YOUR TAX DOLLARS ON THE LINE.

For clarity, numbers under “Requested” were initial requests by the Sheriff, “Proposed” was the response by the County, “2nd Request” is the response by the Sheriff and “Difference” is the shortfall if any.

There are some glaring and inexplicable cuts made to vital areas.

For example;

Acct 2729-556-261 Training Expenses cut by 1/3 to ½ including P.O.S.T. training and training new recruits.

Acct 2729-556-264 Dues and memberships, it is more serious than the title implies. It includes MULES (Missouri Uniform Law Enforcement Systems), provides 24-hour communication services to Patrol officers as well as all law enforcement agencies in the state. The County is cutting in half funding for the TIPS Hotline.

Acct 2729-556-314 Chemicals to kill lice and bacteria on inmates, cleaning of Inmates cells, dayrooms and clothing - $0

Acct 2729-556-316 Inmate jumpsuits, boxers, t-shirts, socks, suicide clothing. - $0

Even more disturbing:

27-556-316 ADM Body Armor $0. These brave men and women risk their lives daily for our safety and we can find no money for bullet proof vests? Zero is the priority that is being set for the safety of our underpaid Deputies?

Acct 2729-556-360 Gun parts, holsters, training supplies like ear and eye protection during firearms not to mention first aid kits. TASER replacements. Equipment like munitions, for our STAR Team (Strategic Targeted Area Response), this is the division that responds to the most serious threats by the most dangerous criminals. $0

Acct 2729-556-362 Replacement of crime scene supplies, the gathering and proper storage of crime scene evidence is vital for the conviction of those who prey on our citizens. Without that evidence criminals will be released back into our neighborhoods. The County funding one third funding – low priority.

Commissioners Ridgeway and Owen are putting us in a race to the bottom when it comes to our jail along with the Jackson County Jail. This budget puts the lives of officers at greater risk and increases the possibility of inmate lawsuits against the County.

There are many other areas where the priority is Zero. And this does not even address the issue of pay.

And after all of that, Commissioners Ridgeway and Owen steamrolled another additional $605,784.

Apparently $600 coffeemakers are a higher priority than body armor. This is unconscionable. When we send our law enforcement professionals out to protect you, the citizens of this county, I want them to have the best equipment, the best training and the best pay we can possibly afford.

Instead Commissioners Ridgeway and Owen have chosen to raise your property taxes, vote to dramatically increase their own pay and spend well into six figures for new outside lawyers.

We need more deputies and fewer high-priced lawyers making over $300 per hour.

This is your money, this is your government, make your voice heard!

  1. So you're telling me Clay County is the new Jackson County. Somehow that doesn't make me feel any better.

    1. North is the new land of opportunity for Kansas City criminals. More targets, more cheap housing and fewer cops. This is the upcoming crime wave for 2018.

Just don't get caught because those judges will throw the book at you.

    2. Good for Nolte, he's doing the right thing here. The only problem is that it's not going to make him any more popular with Missouri Republicans who live off of contracts with expensive consultants. Sorry Jerry, the game is rigged, somebody forgot to tell you.

  2. It's about time we had some accountability in Clay County government. We need the same kind of audit in KCMO that petitioners are working on in Clay County.

    Nice job!

  3. The waste in Clay County is ridiculous and something that needs to be looked at from the state level. Missouri Auditor would be wise to step in and look at all branches of this government.

  4. If we're starting petitions in Clay County, let's start with Recall Petitions for all three of these spoiled "Liberty Mafia" Asswipes!

  5. @5:25 State Law doesn't allow for the recall of county commissioners. would need a charter county government.

  6. I’d love to hear the other side of the story instead of just this memo from the sheriff.

  7. You call that "edited for clarity?"

  8. KCMO covers too large of an area, it should be divided along county lines into new cities.

    1. Agreed there! They should also give up east areas to Lee's Summit and Raytown.

  9. I like this guy! I want him to run for kcmo mayor. Somebody with the right priorities, how refreshing!

  10. Nolte is a dumb arse. Things like taxes being cut, law enforcement being funded and compliance with the law used to happen until Nolte, a rumor mongerer and complete fool, ran for commish. All one of you Nolte fans, ask yourself, are you better off with Nolte or were you better off when he wasn't there? Nolte has no clue about county law or commish rules, he is an abject failure and a lightweight Miss Complainer.

  12. @ 8:45, not only is your comment wrong, but it reflects the attitude that seems to be prevalent in the inner city. New neighbors moving to my neighborhood from there, seeking good schools and affordable decent housing, are always surprised to find that the levels of diversity up here reflect those of the Metro area very closely.

The major problems of the area are similar to those south, lack of responsiveness and services from the City Government and a County Government that has been non-functional for at least forty five years.

However, being ignored by squabbling members of the "Professional" Politician Class (except of course at Tax Time) is not such a bad thing. Police protection north is dismal, the two station have been moved as close to Liberty and Platte City are possible, leaving the Northland population underserved and with long response times from these remote locations, and the apparent trend seems to be for Fire and Ambulance protection to be moved to the outer fringes of the City Limits as well.

But on the other hand we aren't often afflicted with "Improvements", except for the current Airport Farce, so we get by.

Come up north and see for yourself, I believe you'll be surprised, and I know you'll be welcome.

  13. Split Clay County north-south along I-35 so the majority of the population can have some sort of representation I their new County Government, and let the clowns in Liberty self-destruct without hurting everyone else.

  14. Zero money was allotted for LEO body armor. Is that a major scandal, or was it because the police do not need any more body armor? Who cares, print it as a scandal.

  15. Nolte is a sock puppet for the developers and their consultants who want to control Clay County. Nolte has tried to create as much controversy as possible to discredit the other officeholders.
This has been a longtime strategy to defeat the others and regain control of Clay County. Millions of dollars in TIF and other incentives are at stake.
Nolte is now up for re-election and the voters have noticed his effort to wreck Clay County.

  16. Nolte was a grade school art teacher and the only people he has ever been capabable of leading are first graders.

  17. Didn't Nolte strike a female employee and she had to go to the hospital? If he did that, maybe is the next to go with various forms of harassment!?!?!

  18. If the boons didn’t rape, pillage and murder none of this would be needed

  21. Local Government budget talks usually involve funds that aren't liquid yet and in most cases, taxes that aren't even collected yet.

"Cash" is what you buy rims for your low-rider with. Just sayin'.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Well, if we’re not going to provide body armor for the cops, I’m ok with a few criminals being shot and killed by the cops under questionable circumstances.

  23. Killa City for 2018.

  24. Nolte is a walking shit bag dumb ass.

  25. They all do. Grow up

  26. Isn't KCMO in four different counties ? How and why was this allowed to happen, just makes no logical sense for a city to be spread that thin and divided.
