TKC Blog Community Question: Is Kansas City Food Scene Really That Exciting???

Don't get it twisted . . . There are A LOT of great places to eat in this town and new restaurants worth checking out. But "exciting" is a lot to expect from Midwestern fare that always overdoes it on portions, goes far to heavy on carbs and has a maniacal obsession with sauces. You decide:

Zagat names KC one of America's 'Most Exciting Food Cities' - Kansas City Business Journal

Kansas City is way more than barbecue, and the influx of hot new restaurants has helped it land on Zagat's "30 Most Exciting Food Cities in America" list. Kansas City ranked No. 28, and Zagat rattled off a number of standout restaurants, including those that received recent honors: Manifesto, a 2017 James Beard semifinalist for Outstanding Bar Program, and Bluestem, a 2017 James Beard semifinalist for Outstanding Restaurant.

  1. We have some great restaurants. That said, the places that get zagat excited would not see me inside.

I'd rather go to the Bristol then to Rye. Or Classic Cup or Bluebird Bistro rather than Stock Hill.

    1. Excellent comment.

There seems to be a caste system of KC restaurants and the smaller ones are getting squeezed out.

  6. Shit, the geriatrics that populate this page can only give their opinions about the Tapioca in the day room. They haven't eaten out in decades!

  7. Millennials have the answers we need.

Although their work and life experience is minimal, their near constant online immersion has given them a worldly wisdom that previous generations could not have attained in a lifetime.

They are your neighbors, so go and meet one and have a pour-over smallbatch coffee summit with them, if you will.

You'll be amazed at the level of expertise they're more than willing and feel a civic duty to share with the rest of society.

  10. Tapioca is delicious. I can often be found wandering around eating a bowl while yelling at millennials to get off my lawn and stop begging for handouts. I really have no interest in listening to or understanding their worldliness.

  11. I actually feel badly for the millennial generation: they've inherited a completely destroyed and poisoned world to inhabit and yet the oldsters who raped and plundered the earth daily of all resources they could get their hands on are blaming the youth as their last vile and dispicable act before mericfully dying off.
