Sadly, locals pursuing a loophole is tougher for locals . . .

First, a bit of explanation . . .

NPR: Why Some Homeowners Are Scrambling To Prepay Their 2018 Property Taxes

The new law includes a $10,000 cap on the amount of state and local taxes people can deduct on their federal returns.

So, big money residents can save a lot of cash by paying next year's bill ahead of time.

Tragically . . . JaxCo isn't taking most requests to pay early given accounting trouble and the possibility of assessments increasing (most will given the need to cover the hot mess at the jail) . . .

  5. Why pay your property taxes at all? I'm going to do what Frank White does and wait til the day before my house is about to be auctioned off on the courthouse steps, and then somebody will just give me the money to get out from under. Easy.

  6. THE IRS will not allow these deductions in states that do not have current assessments. Since the prepaid property taxes are for 2018 and there are no 2018 assessments Missouri is shit out of luck.
