Kansas City Star Once Again Attempts To Explain Chiefs Protester Marcus Peters

Mellinger is an otherwise brilliant writer but in this missive he's playing from talking points and mistaking brash behavior (which is always encouraged) with openly disrespecting a stadium full of fans who don't want the national anthem disrespected in the name of ill-conceived social justice protest. Read more:

He's not 'Kansas City Nice' - Marcus Peters' rocky relationship with Chiefs fans

Kansas City is a conservative market, with a strong military presence, and a general expectation that athletes stay in line.

This issue is not as trick or complicated as people are trying to make it seem. Peters actions would not be acceptable in most NFL cities other than just Kansas City. His actions and behavior were not acceptable to the University of Washington, which is quite liberal and not conservative at all.

I think Mellinger is wrong. Peters is a good guy and Kansas City nice but he's just a little crazy and odd and many people (including me) simply don't agree with his actions.

I am a white middle aged fairly liberal former athlete. What I see in Marcus is a talented player with an attitude that is having a negative effect on his team in a big way. I would not want him on my team. He got kicked off his college team, apparently for similar reasons.

Marcus is a great example for kids.
He is mild-tempered and would never let his emotions get the best of him.
Fans pay $20 for beer and $40 for parking and hundreds for tickets to see the class-acts of Marcus- notice how straight he threw the refs flag! I understand the Royals are impressed.
Look how smart he is! I know his grammar teacher would be disappointed if he ever had one, but look how much energy he saves by taking a knee at The National Anthem! He is a genius!
And the only reason he isn’t playing this week is not because he quit on his teammates and is a locker-room-City-wide-fan-cancer...No- but because he wants to play with the Raiders and doesn’t want to have any outbursts in front of them.
Let’s give him a break! In fact- he worked so hard prior to this year- let’s give him a break until January and cut him so he can join the Raiders or Kaepernick if the owners don’t want him.
clASSy guy!

He’s close to being blackballed from the NFL. His talent doesn’t compensate for the headache his attitude brings. Most NFL teams would shy away from him. Ask Kapernick. The Raiders would be the only team I see taking a chance on. Maybe the Bangles. But you have to tackle in the AFC North. CFL here he comes.

It has nothing to do with culture or race. His actions would be unacceptable almost anywhere.

Peters should run for congress. KC would elect his ass in a flash.

Trade that loser to the Browns.

I bet since he is not playing tomorrow- that he watches BeastMode.
The Chiefs Defense is tired of Peters 3rd grade attitude that matches his grammar level.
Andy surely has made plans to cut the locker room cancer. He should follow in Kaepernick’s footsteps and try to get on a Time magazine cover next year if Trump declines it again.
I know of no one who has said to their kid: “ Marcus is a great example of sportsmanship!”
In fact- I would quit football because of him.

Yet even MORE Marcus Peters news:

It is being reported around the nation that:

According to a report by NFL Network’s Mike Garafalo, Peters also had a verbal altercation with an assistant coach on the bus during the team’s ride to airport following the game. The assistant coach was not named.

Peters needs to resign and have a leg amputated so he can be a 1-legged waiter at IHOP.

Laughingstock.

The fact that this slop passes for journalism on that paper gives one all he needs to know why its circulation is what it is.

Mellinger claims this behavior is accepted in Oakland where Peters grew up....
How’s that working for Oakland?? I learned values besides behavior as a child, hopefully the values Marcus learned are stronger than his behavior. The behavior in all of us changed as we grew up and it’s time Marcus will start growing up. He clearly has a desire to do good in his community but he could do much more if he would start to grow up. Good luck, Marcus Peters.

Peters is out getting knee surgery..... ...go figure...
