Nightmare scenario plays out overnight in the disappearance of an 18-year-old young woman.
Deets about the search for the young woman:
Mikayla Norris was last seen on Dec. 17 around 8:30 p.m. at Jack Stack Barbecue in Overland Park. Norris took a job as a hostess after moving to the metro from Fort Scott, Kansas.
She hasn’t been seen since leaving work Sunday night. A flyer from Kansas Missing and Unsolved said she was believed to be going to a party in Independence and her last text said she was hanging out with friends.
Mikayla was last seen in a 2007 black four door Toyota Camry bearing a Kansas licenses tag of 566 FSB.
But later, an unknown man was spotted driving her car.
After seeing reports about the missing woman's car, a witness took pictures of the the man filling up the gas tank at a Gladstone QT.
But the witness quickly figured out it wasn’t Norris filling up her car at the Gladstone QuikTrip, and the man didn’t seem happy about her trying to see if anyone else was in the car.
"In the process of doing that, the person who was driving the vehicle at the time got suspicious and started approaching our witness and acting like maybe he had a gun," Captain James Sutterby with Overland Park Police said.
Kansas City police said they're trying to determine if a body found Tuesday night is a missing Overland Park girl. The description of the body matches 18 year old Mikayala L. Norris. A positive ID has not been made yet. The person of interest in this case has been found in Liberty.
Police in Kansas City say a murder investigation could be connected to a missing person case from another metro city. At about 6:39 p.m. on Tuesday, Kansas City Police Department officers say they were called by the Overland Park Police Department who had a tip that the body of a missing woman had been found in the 8300 block of Hillcrest Road.
