DISGRACE!!! DESPERATE KANSAS CITY STAR STEALS BIGGEST STORY OF 2017 FROM AWESOME TKC BLOG COMMUNITY!!!

Despite the consistent decline of McClatchy stock and continued layoffs of veteran news staff, The Kansas City Star is pushing self-promotional propaganda amid their demise.

For a holiday season laugh, here's a glimpse at dead-tree media talking points . . .

POYNTER: As editorial pages shrink, the Kansas City Star chooses to go big instead

Let's be fair first . . .

The new reporting dude at City Hall seems nice and a lot of people like him. He has to hang out at 12th & Oak all day and deal with all the constant misleading pressers that come out of the Mayor's office, so he deserves a break for a mostly thankless job. However, we notice that Lynn Horsley is still contributing to this beat and also offering some important deets.

But the solid work of reporting, staffing and metro coverage isn't the main point of this glamour piece . . .

Here's the money line:

"One of our writers found that Kansas City's mayor was getting ready to award a $1-billion — that's billion with a B — no-bid contract for airport expansion. We broke the story and then advocated for an open and competitive bid. The process was opened up and the mayor's choice finished in last place; the winning bid was $300 million lower. It wouldn't have played out that way were it not for our work."

This line is disingenuous at best.

In fact . . .

OUR TKC BLOG COMMUNITY POSTED NEARLY HALF A DOZEN STORIES ABOUT KANSAS CITY MAYOR SLY'S NO-BID BURNS & MAC DEAL BEFORE THERE WAS A PEEP FROM THE STAR!!!

Here's an even better fact check - The Star claims to have "found out" about this news item that was highly publicized across all KC metro channels . . .

KANSAS CITY STAR FAKE NEWS TOUTS REACTION TO MAYOR SLY'S PRESSER AS REPORTING!!! BUT EVEN ON THIS TOPIC THEY WERE LATE TO THE GAME AND BEHIND A SLEW OF SOCIAL MEDIA DENIZENS, THE LOCAL BLOGOPSHERE & JUST ABOUT EVERYBODY IN TOWN!!!

While this silly declaration could inspire anger or resentment, instead it actually a joyous sign.

If The Kansas City Star is hanging their hat on fake news then their situation is worse than most can imagine and 2018 looks even worse for this fading local institution.

Part-time hires and more pundits do not a newspaper make and what we've seen over the past year from The Star is that their influence over the local discourse continues to fade as the personal drama and pretty pictures of social media now dominates the minds of the NEXTGEN.

You decide . . .

  1. Don't worry TKC.

Donations will keep the star afloat. You should work on a similar model. Newspapers are the new politicians of the 2020 elections. They are for sale.

    1. The nightmare at the airport isn't even close to finished. There is so much to uncover and I think the biggest surprise will be if they end up giving the thing back to Burns & McDonnell. Odds are, they will.

    2. Now this is interesting. I like the new hires at the newspaper but what troubles me is that I don't see any real sing of differing opinions or different perspectives. Does the Star have even one real Conservative writing for the paper. Op/eds about the airport are fine but it seems like a great deal of the public is not represented by the paper. That's a shame.

    3. McClatchy stock has always stunk.

That's not such a big surprise.

As for the Star, as much as I don't like them. I think it's important that we have a daily news paper. I think once they switch to the donation model, it will be much more fair because their donors will force them to be.

This is how the game is played Tony. The big corporations always steal from the small, local business. The same trend goes for walmart and now Amazon that is driving all of the local retailers out of business. I don't blame the companies, I don't blame anybody for their financial decisions. But I will always support the little guy and my favorite local stores, like TKC and so many others. Thanks for the links and the news brother!

  3. The star can “SUCK IT” they don’t have a prayer of staying afloat, thank god!!!

  4. The new hires are nice but that was a PRESS CONFERENCE not something they found out.

  5. Congratulations Tony. You're fucking insane.

How's it feel to be so delusional?

  6. Tony you missed this airport story by a country mile and you're trying to take credit for it?

    Laughable.

  7. The Star is Liberal. Being shocked that the Star would lie is naive. Liberals, Progressives LIVE by the BIG lie.

    You can keep your doctor.

    The Russians are coming.

Progressives and the KC Star, LIE for a living.

  8. Damn Tony, you're on fire! Keep it up brother.

  9. Goddamn Tony you really are nuts now. You throw all the shit you get against the wall and hope some of it comes true.

You call that beating The Star?

    Ha.

    Ha.

    Ha.

Go chase down a few posts about how black people are ruining society. That'd be groundbreaking - for you.

  10. the local newspaper was behind the curve on the early airport story.

tkc led the way on both facts and analysis.

  11. All of the newspaper "journalists" should be worried about their pensions more than Tony and his first readers. McCatchy is pretty close to going tits up. Good luck selling that debt.

  12. Just Google search it. There is only one story where the Star mentions "no-bid" but TKC and his bloggers post it HUNDREDS of times before that.

  13. 9:39 is spot on!
I went to an event one time and one of the opinion writers looked so sad when she saw Tony. He reports the news and she usually spews her loud mouth to the top of her lungs with liberals BS. Tony is honest and more than anyone on the editorial board is showing more than one side.
He reported the mayor no-bid long before the Star.
What is going to end liberalism once and for all and Be the end for liberal editorial boards is the upcoming indictment of Hillary and the investigators will show how evil the democrat Clinton party was and is.
Trump used to say lock her up- Anyone who doesn’t think it will happen isn’t paying attention.
Who from the airport con job will likely be her cell mate?
Stay tuned as Tony breaks more news and the star takes credit.

  14. I used to like reading The Star but not what they have become. Canceled my subscription because most of it is nothing more than refabricated press release copy from the Mayor's office. Very little investigative research or analysis.

You have to give credit to the TV stations and KCPT. They're doing a lot to fill the void that a good daily newspaper should offer.

  15. Let's make a quick review of the Star.

The supported Sly's plan for the new airport with a front page glossy report on this burns & mac press conference.

The Star actually did some editorials supporting the plan.

The Star helped Sly push for the new airport with free advertising and virtually no coverage of the opposition.

The Star did not offer one editorial to save the airport.

What they told Poynter was an absolute fabrication.

Just as bad as any blogger.

  16. Do you want to do Kansas City a favor?12/26/17, 11:09 PM

    Cancel your Star subscription.

Do no subscribe to their social media feeds.

Find a local news channel you like and use them. Fox4 & Channel 9 are much more responsive to their viewers.

  18. Really bad year for newspapers, The Pitch ended up selling out and The Star is making their case on line. A real big decline this year and I don't see how it's getting any better.

  19. Everyone that works for the Star is either a flaming liberal faggot or an ugly militant bitch that’s mad she doesn’t have a cock. They’re just fucking stupid and have sold out.

  21. And what hilarious is that the Star will probably keep going for a few more decades, whereas once heart disease finally catches up with Tony, this blog will go dark. Stick to the titty pics basement boy, that's what makes this blog worth visiting.

^^^ Up early to smell the farts? That's sweet. As for your well wishes for Tony, I'd be more concerned about your own wellness considering how horrible your life must be to obsessively follow a blog you seem to hate. Good luck to you champ, that's the only way any of us really get by.

  22. Does ANYONE still read the newspaper?

    Really.

    Not anybody under 30.

    Sorry.

    Blame your phone.

  23. "Cancel your Star subscription." Good advice, but incomplete. You can't just stop paying monthly subscription rates to cancel. Under their Terms of Service, you have to notify them in writing. If you want to cancel the Star, read their Terms of Service first.
